Has anyone done the CBTA test yet?
I'm thinking about doing it to get my full, it will be 12 months on my restricted in the middle of April.
This is the link roadsafe sent me with info about their course

Hey mate, I did the CBTA restricted to full test today. It wasn't too bad but I had done the bronze roadsafe course a couple weeks ago and that partly focused on passing the test. I would suggest you do one first, they are ACC funded and only cost $20. I learnt lots and got some great tips re the test. Andrew is a bloody good instructor with years of motorcycling experience. Anyway that is just my two cents. Stay upright!
I did my CBTA in 2006, with Andrew. Very good.
One thing I liked (which I mention as the CBTA is more than just a fast-track) was the personal attention (ahem) of a qualified instructor, being much more realistic and flexible than a tester following a script. I am perfectly able to identify a risk such as that bue van looking like it's ready to pull out of a side street on me - but the way my memory works I was not looking forward to having to recall a list of hazards to the tester at the end of the ride - "yes, that yellow submarine nearly pulled out on me".
Riding around with Andrew watching, he can see how you react to things, and in the groups you all talk about the stuff you've seen. Works well.
And all the actual training; cone slaloms, emergency stops, unruly pillions, etc - all good.
Measure once, cut twice. Practice makes perfect.
no. noone has ever done that before. certainly noone has ever made a thread on kiwibiker about it, and you DEFINITELY couldn't find it by typing "CBTA" into the box, clearly marked "search"....
I'm looking to do mine too. I rode on my learners for 12 months and have had my restricted for 15. I was actually been riding a CBR F4 round for the last 6 months so its bout time i got my full. I ride everyday basically
Anyway, I'm by no means an expert but I ride defensively, I think I'm relatively competent and thats what they are after right! Anyway, I called a few CBTA testers and was told, if I don't do the training, I'd basically fail. Kind of annoys me that I could wait three months, go to the AA and pass my test easy as. But I think going through this CBTA will be a lot more stringent.
Long Story short. I'm gonna give it a shot this week and see how it goes. I'm keen as to do additional training but I'd like to do some one-to-one stuff on a the bike I'll be riding more often.
So - anyone got any tips out there. I've read the sites but I'd be keen to hear of anyone's experience being tested.
Shot!!
So i finally did my CBTA-F (full) and passed on Friday!
I did the Bronze course which is well worth the $20 if you're on your restricted as it focuses on the actual assessment with a lot of instruction on how to ride around Makra and those types of roads. So the reason i did bronze instead of silver (i was in with mostly Learner licence people) is because if you do the silver course you can do the gold discounted course for another 12 months but with the bronze the wait time is only 3 months. I'm going to do the Gold course probably around August when my 3 months is up. So there's a little tip for restricted riders looking to get their full
As for the actual assessment, we started off at Porirua BP and then rode around Prosser St in Porirua then through Porirua city CDB and onto the motorway. We went through Whitby and around the inlet where we finished up at Pauatahanui. This probably won't make much sense to people outside of the Wellington region but it took about 30 - 45 mins.
Once you pass this assessment you get a certificate which you can take immediately to a licencing agent and get you full licence, if you pass the eye test. The fee is $50 to get the licence. The CBTA-F test if $170 and the CBTA-R one is like $190 or something?
Anyway i passed, so im happy![]()
