    42nd Traverse

Went by myself as I couldnt make the group ride tomorrow. Left Hamilton for National Park at 6am -

After eating at The Station Cafe in National Park I made my way to the start of the 42nd, I was anxious at first to be honest, didn't know what to expect! The first 3rd was the hardest (mountin - owhango direction), the going got easier after that 3rd crossing or so. Wouldnt go the opposite way.. far to slippery and steep for the Transalp!

Met 3 groups of locals on the first 3rd of the track, all in 4wd's, they basically said same thing "You're going the whole way, on that?" One guy gave me a earful on safety, telling me I should turn around as somebody got choppered out last weekend after breaking a collerbone, rich coming from him becuase he looked like he'd just had 3 cones and jumped in this hilux, he and his passenger were wasted as.. Also past 3 ppl on mountin bikes, I know I had a two hundred something kilo motorcycle to deal with but looking at them made me think I'd made the right choice.

What an amazing ride, I really enjoyed it. Absolutely beautiful, not too techinical but a couple tricky bits to help keep your eye in. I was home by 3pm

Nice report, good on you for doing it alone... Not envious of the start time though . Need to get down there soon me thinks.

Not me, not much anyway. Dr has recommended against adv riding for the time being while a head injury recovers.

Personally I prefer to lurk here and live vicariously through your numerous posts here on such interesting subjects as "..my ride to the shop to get the paper..".
It did occur to me that they should try strapping you to 777’s on the basis that your constant drone would make the plane easier to find under thousands of metres of water...

sorry to hear that Eddie, hope you recover real soon but take it easy, noggins take their own sweet time to recover and pushing things only makes them mend slower
    ....wherezz that track go

    +1

I left an imprint of my face in the bark of tree in Putaruru Forest once and was out cold for 10 minutes.
It took a long time to get right again, you need to be patient.
