because I think most people have some sympathy for what is fairly clearly a feral media beat-up against someone with a massive public profile.
Clarkson did not say "nigger" out loud, and he was reciting a nursery rhyme for goodness sake. One of the nursery rhymes that was recited to me as a kid. And, it did not air in the finished programme.
He did not call anyone a nigger, nor was he racially pejorative. It is arguable that the earlier ("slope") incident was worse.
I actually think that short of jerking off in the chairman of the BBC's shoes (and who knows, he might be into that) JC can do whatever he wants because TG is so hugely popular. 300MILLION people watch the show and it is sold in 200 territories. That is, in the parlance of the day, what we call a big earner.
For goodness sake.

"So if you meet me, have some sympathy, have some courtesy, have some taste ..."
I do not understand that cartoon at all. and Jesus Christ, sorry, Jeremy Clarkson is hardly a liberal.

Perhaps we aren't defending what he said, as much as his right to say it...
JC is a GC, makes good TV cos of his forthrightness and anti-PC stance. For an anti-PC advocate to lose support due to them saying something not PC about our interests, is a bit hypocritical wouldn't you say?

TOP QUOTE: “The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people’s money.”
I was watching a re-run of Top Gear yesterday.
In the news segment, JC was all agog describing some valve in the exhaust of some car, that made it louder when you accelerated hard. It was great *, apparently. Then he was all angry about "noisy" motorbikes. (Sport-bikes using the roads near his house in the country). Then he liked the noise of some other car.
This was all without the slightest hint of self-awareness about his hypocrisy.
That offended me.
* what's worse, is in a fairly recent column by him I read in the paper, he was all against that kind of artificiality.
(Though for the record, I generally find him amusing; you just need to know how big a dose of salt to take with him. And the current issue is a stupid media beat-up.)

If ever there was a racist it was that skinny white appologist supposidly representing the NBA on USA TV screaming for the white team owners blood!![]()
Not that the 'discreet' recording of conversations had any part to play in yet another sensationalist "I wanna be famous" type situation!
But yes - there's misinterpreted comments, things said as part of a rhyme from before many of us were born, and similar, and then there are those who evidently have an agenda of some description and deliberately say things that will or are intended to offend.
Nothing worse than a closed mind.
