New boots - TCX?

I'm looking for a new pair of boots budget around $350 before hitting desert storm next weekend, am looking at the TCX Pro 1.1 which cycletreads have a special on at the moment.

Haven't managed to find many reviews on them on line? Has anyone had these before an can offer any opinions on these?

Have also looked at the Fox Comp 5, seem pretty soft and have less protection. Fox F3R, look good but look like they may not last as long and are more expensive.

Any other opinions/options/recommendations welcome.

TCX's used to be called Oxtar and are not bad boots, I got Sidi's Crossfire 2's last year after about my last 5 sets of boots being alpinestars, i love them,

I've got a pair of TCX/Oxtar pros had them for 6 yrs and still going strong , love the booty, they do squeak and are heavy but offer great protection. Was a Sidi man for 30 yrs but they've gotten to narrow in the toe area[ or my feet have splayed ] want to be comfortable on a ride so the TCX/Oxtar was a good comfortable fit.

I have had a couple of pairs of Fox Comp 5s, they lasted for a year or so, then something gave on them (stitching coming undone etc). I put a hole in one boot with the kickstart, wasn't trying particularly hard either, so yeah I wouldn't go there again.

Getting on 4 years on the same Alpinstars Tech3s though, really want to upgrade to higher spec Techs (for bling purposes only) but the bastards won't wear out.

Whats the deal with cycle treads now days? Called in there a month or two ago to grab some tires only to find a Yamaha dealer downstairs but they honoured the cycle treads price and seemed to be aligned? Anyone got the low down?

And are cyclespot taking over Barrys Point Rd- 3 separate premises. Took my husky wr250 in there for a fork seal job(I wasn't paying, it was booked in, and I would normally do myself) well, over two weeks later finally got my bike back, what a joke, even after the manager visually recorded the VIN # and wheeled the bike in he still thought it was a Yamaha and couldn't get the chasis # to register.Not recommended.

I got some forma boots from Torpedo 7 to replace my Alpine stars and I love them, the old school stitched sole seems way more durable.

yes the owners of cycletreads own the yamaha store below as well, cyclesport is quite a big operation these days, and the best mechanics on barrys point road are still spectrum motorcycles,

Agreed, Cant praise Spectrum enough, they have always been mega helpfull and i dont even own a green bike.

As for boots, i have gone through 2 pairs of boots whilst my mates Tech 3s hardly have any wear on them at all. I will be getting some next time.

i've always liked the look of the tech 3's and probably can't really justify anything more than a 3, but quite a few of the reviews bitch about stiffness and the buckles. any comments?

my low end gaerne's were comfy as on the 2nd ride but they have a bit of a design flaw with a plastic flap on the ankle coming away and hitting against the frame.

so it's duct tape, gaerne's with a better design or some alpinestars.

No issues with stiffness with my Tech3s but they have held up remarkably well, so maybe the stiffness others have found result in long life (solid construction). Also with the buckles, a bit of silicon spray on the clasp stops the hard-to-close issues others have had.
