Just wear it and tell them its a religious custom where you come from![]()
I have taken a helmet as hand luggage to that most anally paranoid and vindictive of nations, the United States of America. I walk free.

Wear it. Say its religious. Take a Go pro.
Ask the airline for sure and cover it or put it in a compact bag.
I never gave it any thought when I flew Sydney / Singapore / Delhi.
I was short on space so attached it to my Camelbac as carry on, all the way to India and back to Singapore no problem then got stopped on the last leg back to Sydney.
It was a security risk in their eyes even though I had flown the whole way on the same airline.
A Arai cover might have been enough, out of site out of mind.

Flown domestically three times to pick up bikes and never had a problem...
Just dont call it a crash helmet.....
Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....
Just come back from ozz.
Took my helmet over as hand luggage.
No probs both ways,
And that is the honest truth your honour..
I travelled to Australia in May. I carried a helmet as hand luggage on Air NZ to Adelaide and out from Darwin on Jet Star to Brisbane and then back to Auckland on Emirates.
No questions were asked.

"Sorry Officer, umm.... my yellow power band got stuck wide open"
Traveled to the US and back from Mexico last September with two helmets in oxford helmet bags.
No problems, ever got a look.
I always take my helmet as hand luggage, no way I'm trusting the luggage handlers. Never had any problems anywhere I've travelled.
