Is it still beastiality if ya fuck a frozen chicken??
Another early start and when we got there a fairly heavy frost which soon thawed as the day warmed up
Graeme/Colin were unable to make it after cooking a motor at the last round but Alex had his LCR back up and running with the later motor and had made the trip down so we could still put 5 on the grid
I tried Alex’s sidecar for fit and found it a bit on the small side with both shoulders jammed hard against the bodywork
Bit of a change around since last round with Phil who’d normally be on the Windle with Kai riding the AGIP bike and Ella swinging for Kai
Practice
We got a 12 minute practice session and sped up lap after lap, about lap 5 some padding had come adrift and we pulled back into the pits to put it back in place but didn’t make it back out before the chequered flag came out
I’d changed the handlebars before the event to bring them closer to me and it made the sidecar feel far better, we popped the fairing off and gave it a look over, topped up the gas and got ready to go
We were a bit surprised to find ourselves going off P1 with Alex/Andy P2 and Goober/Matt P3 all within about .5 sec of each other as it certainly didn’t feel like a good session but our best lap was slightly quicker than out best from last time
Race 1
I got caught out on the start when the lights went on and off a bit quicker than I expected and that was enough to give Alex/Andy the jump on me, Goober/Matt were also asleep on the line and Kai/Ella beat them through T1/T2 before they came through onto the back straight
Alex had said he thought he’d take it easy but there didn’t seem to be anything easy about it and Goober/Matt were only a metre or so behind us as well
Three laps in and I go for an inside pass off the end of the straight but don’t quite have the room, Alex/Andy seem to get better drive onto the straight and always pull a length or two on us which we make up by the time we go off the end, lap four and I think I’ve got it but Alex/Andy have a good line up the inside and I can’t make it stick
One lap to go and we’re running nose to tail as we hit the hairpin, I push it into the chicane a bit harder aiming to try and drive out faster before the line and have a bit of a moment where I think I’m not even going to make the turn into the chicane, I gather it back up but it gives Alex/Andy more than enough to beat us over the finish line
Race 2
My start is good but Alex/Andy is better, I pass them down the straight but Alex/Andy soon comes back past, it’s a carbon copy of race 1 and then as we follow Alex through T1/T2 he runs off the track, he later admits he was looking around to see where I was
He loses very little ground and gets back past at his favourite passing stop at the end of the back straight; although we’re right on him for the entire race distance we can’t get back in front before the flag and once again we’re getting very untidy into the chicane again on the last lap trying to catch him
Race 3
We’re into it from the start and Alex takes pity on me and lets me through, we lead him the next 3 laps inches apart
He goes for an outside pass through the two lefts before the hairpin and we run side by side through both of them and then I cut across his front through the right into the hairpin
I’m on the gas onto the straight thinking I might have him this time as the white flag comes out out and push it in a bit harder on the brakes off the end of the straight
Alex/Andy however push it in even harder to the point Alex later says it was getting fairly untidy and spectators report it weaving all over the place
We come up behind Phil/Matt to lap then at the hairpin and although we’re right on Alex/Andy once again they lead us to the line
One casualty for the day when Kai got a bit over excited when he fixed a problem and found his bike was going properly pushed it a bit hard and lost Ella off the back in her first race meeting so that’s drinks for the next round sorted
Overall a good day out with Will’s second meeting done, we’d pushed a bit harder than I’d planned trying to stick with Alex and getting close to our nationals times but it all felt good and next time we’ll try and dial it up a bit more as we’ve got a pensioner we want to beat
