Binned my solo while leading the open post classic championship at
Taupo today, broke it in half & loaded it on to the trailer in two large bits.
Should be ok for the next meeting.
, I have plenty of spares.
Fortunately the guy that was directly behind me in points had two dnf's also, but not in such a dramatic way.
Enduring memory will be Wendy in the pickup van getting on the radio & saying "Its pretty bad, I think we're going to need a couple more people to load it on the trailer" it was a strangely pmsl situation.
The street tyres aren't working out as cheap as I had planned.

King of Ruapuna Rd1

The weather was looking a bit dodgy on the way to the track alternating between clear and cold and light showers but the forecast for the day wasn’t too bad
At the track and set up and Goober mentions they’ll probably want us up first to dry the track and sure enough the Clerk of the course comes over to see if we’re happy being first up
When he mentions the race order at riders briefing Alex immediately asks why we’re first up and gets the reply “You didn’t drop any oil last time so we’ll make you first up”

Practice

Half the track is wet with some puddles and damp spots, we’re getting bugger all traction and some good slides and a few laps in Alex/Andy do a 720 degree spin through one of the lefts before the dipper Andy stays on and avoids a beer shout and with the session over find Goober/Matt on pole with Alex/Andy on 2, Me and Will on 3, Phil/Stephen on 4 and Kai/Ella on 5

Race 1

The sidecar is lighting up big time but Goober/Matt in front of me are asleep on the line and Alex can’t get the power down either

We lead off into T1 and half expecting one of the others to come past, unknown to me Kai/Ella had got the hell launch and come from P5 to right behind me

Kai/Ella slow up out of pothole and Goober/Matt show off by passing them half sideways and nearly filling their pants in the process

We’re lighting up and sliding sideways out of T1 every lap and at a couple of other spots on the track but it’s starting to dry out

Alex/Andy come past Goober/Matt exiting pothole about lap 3 and have the hammer down after us and he has a bit of a look around the outside into the dipper and then up the inside onto the straight

We get the white flag and then as we come into the hairpin Alex/Andy finally go around the outside of us, we chase them through the next few corners but he beats us over the line by about 3 bike lengths

Race 2

Goober/Matt don’t cock this one up and he’s into it hard from lights out with Kai/Ella getting another brilliant start from the back of the grid but heading through to the hairpin it’s Goober/matt, Me and Will and Alex/Andy Me, Alex/Andy go right around the outside of us at the hairpin and set off after Goober/Andy

Goober/Matt are using all the track plus a bit of the grass and as they come along from the infield sweeper into the next right get a bit untidy under brakes, get a bit loose and flick sideways before it and end up half spinning

Alex/Andy go around the front of them and Me and Will go across the back while they’re going from the left ripple strip to the right ripple strip

We chase Alex/Andy for a couple of laps then get a good run onto the straight and pull past them. I’m expecting them to come back into T1 but it’s not until the left before the infield sweeper they go around us, we close them back down but can’t get back in front before the flag

Race 3

Goober/Matt are taking it a bit easy off the line and Alex/Andy lead into T1

Tracks drying out and we’re trying a bit harder, I’ve got a bit more speed down the straight and catch right up on Alex/Andy into T1 and the hairpin, I try up the inside of the next right hander and just about get the front knocked off when Alex/Andy cut across the front with a few mm to spare

Alex/Andy let me though and then next lap do an outside pass through the left before the infield sweeper, Will is looking across and later says he’s sure Andy was sliding down our bodywork as they go through

We get back in front again and Alex/later said he wasn’t sure he’d get us back but they manage another pass at the hairpin, were right on the back of them up out of the dipper but I push it into the sweeper a bit hard and end up out too wide and Alex/Andy take another win with Me and Will a few bike lengths back

All in all a pretty good meeting for everyone with the new rider/passenger combinations working out good

Busy couple of weekends coming up with Levels next weekend and then Ruapuna the weekend after

i thought he sent him back because he didn't tie wire his capiler bolts,and he was worried that he might run out of gas and be looking at a $400 fine
