Im not sure if its bad or not, will upload pics tomorrow. keep finding more and more problems with this bad boy. its on a go kart off roader thing. I was looking at spending around $2k to rebuild it but i'm not sure i can do it for that. So would probably be better off replacing it with something else, as much as that pains me to say, i'm quite attached to it...

Ha, my "expert" opinion from my mate (bike mechanic) is that its fucked and he wants nothing to do with it. He seems to hate this engine for no apparent reason and thinks I would be better off with a 4 stroke. I think that would take half the fun away..

He seems to know fuck all, seen heaps of two stroke heads with that kind of damage and they don't cause any problems, if it was going ok beforehand it wont magically turn to to shit just because you've seen it

it wasn't - water in crankcase and gbox, needs a full rebuild. Just trying to work out machine shop costs to determine if it'll be worth it. $2k is my absolute limit for a full rebuild, crank alone is 850 and I need to replace every seal, gasket, rebuild carbs, new clutch etc so I may be pushing shit uphill to do it for that price

Stop being a bloody whiner and either do it properly or sell it to someone who wants it.
Couple of years back i did a complete rebuild/restoration on an air cooled RD engine for pretty much 2k all up - including paint and polish outwork.
But expert labour costs would appear to be lower in the SI, how sad...

Assuming that rd would've been in a bit better condition than mine..i just don't want to do it if im not practically getting a new engine. The head has me a little worried, unsure if machinable or whether it needs it. Hard to find anyone locally that knows anything about these engines. Not worried about polishing etc I just want a reliable runner. At what point does it become unfixable? And if I did fix it would it be a reliable runner or a temperamental son of a bitch?

Yip, that's had bits of piston and or ring hitting it. But not while it was running last by the looks. Give it a sand, and never think of it again. It's fine.

the Rd was fucked - rod kits, bearings,seals, rebore, clutch, you name it. They're infinitely fixable as long as the cases are OK.
as it stands it's a parts motor unless someone spends money.

Pretty sure my Outboard is in a worse condition than that and it still goes hard. Could always sand the light pits out and put a tack weld in the deep ones and sand it back lightly with a dremel.
Bit of a rough cunts fix but if you are keen on doing it for cheap. Should be no way it would cost more than 2k to get that machined.
