    PRESS RELEASE 12 December 2014

As at 12.00pm today free-to-air sports channel Sommet Sports will cease transmission.
Launched 18th July 2013, Sommet Sports has delivered both live and pre-recorded sports on Freeview Channel 14, and Sky Channel 69. Funding initially understood to be available for the channel upon launch had largely never materialised and Sommet has been forced to attempt to deliver a full nationwide broadcast channel on one third of the finance.
“I am totally gutted at not being able to sustain something that we have long held a fervent desire to deliver to New Zealanders. Sommet was born from a dream to deliver free sports to all kiwis. Sadly this dream is not to be.” says Andrew Reeves, Director of Sommet Sports Ltd. “We have been blown away by the amazing support and consistently growing viewership that we gained in such a short time. We can only thank our loyal fans who have stayed with us until the end.”
“Being the ‘new kids on the block“, we also struggled to gain a strong foothold with most advertising agencies. This coupled with an acute funding shortage has left us with the sad reality of having to make the difficult call.”
“I would like to thank OMD, Spark, McDonalds, KFC and Fiat Chrysler group for their support and belief in our vision of delivering ‘Free Sports for Kiwis’ “.
Mmmmm ! Some time ago I read Dorna had tried to sew it up by making people pay via internet. But it was said Motogp needs free to air to be successful.
I'm hoping Sky reach into their wallet and pay for it after suffering 2014 ?

Sky didn't "suffer" anything. NZ broadcasters simply don't give a shit about motorsports, characterise it as a low-brow activity undertaken by morons suffering from a death wish and only grudgingly have F1 on "because, F1".

Not only do broadcasters not care, neither do the bulk of the NZ Public.

$160 for MotoGP's feed is outrageous. That's just extortion.

I'm pushing the button. I've had enough.

It's not outrageous at all, I get to watch every practice session in all 3 classes if I want, all the pre and post race press conferences, interviews with riders who didn't make the podium, even past races etc. And all that whenever it suits me.

Break it up to the cost per round and it's under $10.

Not too bad in my opinion.

Moto2 is shit, so $3 of that $10 goes to waste every round. Yes, I know the racing is better than any other class of 2 wheeled motor racing, however every race is a Honda whitewash. They're sloooooooow. And the accidents are predictable and generated by trying to make something slow go faster than it should, not mental aberrations and insanity like Moto3. I don't care about practice sessions, just qualifying and the race. There is no way in hell that I would feel comfortable spending $160 on something that I'd get $70 worth of enjoyment out of.

You guys need to read the fine print on my previous post, PM each other and cut your costs by 1/2.
We have even been logged on at the same time while talkin on the phone about lap times etc.
Or be viewing it via the laptop on TV and have the site on, on the tablet.
They have a "no spoiler" link straight to the race vids for watchin next night.

The thing I really liked was the 45min long pre race interviews with questions from the floor.

Doubt if me or my boy would pay full whack either for just one sport feed but at least they are getting one sub out of us rather than nothing.

I wonder how much the sport suffers when they sell their soul and walk away from their fan base???

    Formula 1 is the same.
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

It wasn't MotoGP that had the problem.

SkyNZ botched the deal with MotoGP rights holders Dorna Sports. Here's a little-known fact re that botch-up...

Most MotoGP fans assume the negotiation breakdown was over $$, but not so. As you will know Dorna offer live MotoGP coverage online via MotoGP.com. In early 2012 after Sky-Dorna negotiations reached agreement on price, Sky demanded 'exclusive NZ rights' to the content meaning Dorna should block MotoGP.com content to all NZ web subscribers, at which point Dorna said something like .. "Go F@#k yourselves SkyNZ"... True!

Yeah, I had heard that it was the Internet coverage that made SKY unhappy. My Dorna sub has expired but I'm not rushing into anything. Sad to read Sommet pulled the plug. The testing isn't of sufficient interest, so I'll wait and see if SKY do the decent thing, if they don't I'll have to fork for a Dorna sub. Even if it means cutting back on the vinho tinto - God forbid

    What he said.

Just in case I am required to bite the bullet and buy the Dorna streaming, which is the most likely scenario, I am in the process of setting up a PC to get HDMI into the 55 inch Panasonic.

    For those needing a fix..

The Superprestigio is on again early tomorrow morning our time. I just may have to set the alarm. It doesn't look as if SKY have picked it up but it will be streamed from the two web sites mentioned. Here's hoping we are allowed to view it?

    The details from David Emmett

How To Watch The Second Edition Of the Superprestigio Indoor Flat Track Race In Barcelona
Submitted by David Emmett on Fri, 2014-12-12 13:51
in Aleix Espargaro Alvaro Bautista Bradley Smith Marc Marquez Maverick Viñales Pol Espargaro Scott Redding Valentino Rossi Alex Marquez Mika Kallio Tito Rabat Xavier Simeon Enea Bastianini Kenny Noyes Troy Bayliss

Saturday night is the last chance to see the stars of motorcycle racing turning a wheel in anger. On 13th December, the cream of both the MotoGP and AMA flat track paddocks meet for the second running of the Superprestigio, an indoor invitation dirt track race, at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona. The setting is a classic location: the Palau Sant Jordi is part of the former Olympic park, set atop Montjuic, scene of many legendary motorcycle races of the past.

For those who could not make it to Barcelona themselves, they need not despair. The event is to be broadcast in several countries around the globe, as well as streamed live online. In the UK, the Superprestigio will be broadcast on the BT Sport channel. In the US, the event will be streamed live - with English commentary - on the Fanschoice.TV website, as well as on the website of Cycle World magazine.

Action starts at 6:30pm local time, with heats for the two different classes: Superprestigio, an invitation-only class for GP and elite road racers; and Open, for AMA flat track racers and other offroad disciplines, including enduro, long track and European dirt track. The final is a run off between the best riders from both classses, which starts at 9:10pm. You can see a full schedule on the DTX Barcelona website, as well as a full list of riders, and ticket prices.

JB HI-FI have google chrome casts for $59. If you have a wireless network at home, it takes all the hassle out of connecting to your PC

A chromecast is a little dongle that plugs into a HDMI port on your TV then connects to your wireless network at home. If your PC is on the same wireless network, and you use google chrome as a web browser, you can cast (send) what is in your browser to your TV through the chromecast. Think of it of turning older TV's into a smart tv. If you have a android smartphone there are a number apps that support casting natively (YouTube, Netflix, Plex) key thing will be if you have a wireless network at home and your PC is connected to it.
