I think I'd pay that for it... what's the back of it like? - should be tongue and grove rather than ply.

As for the felt lined drawer - cutlery drawer... does it have a knife rack in the drawer?
Bugger..to be honest i cant remember or took little notice of the back (havent picked the thing up yet or would have a look).Drawer though was empty.

All of the above slightly academic...

Most important question - does "she who must be obeyed" like it?

Have you shown her the photo or is it all secret until Christmas morning?

Yep all good lads she loves it,that will take me into the new year with a whole stack of brownie pointsi know sfa about old furiture (or any for that matter) but seems it was a good purchase and plenty of comments on it throughout the day.Has a crack in right hand side frosted glass so will look at getting it replaced sometime,or is it best left as is? Vickys got some quality wax polish and wants it given a good going over.

Its been already refurbished by the look of the pics, as the original finish would likely have gone funny sticky black peely by now..(hard to describe unless you have seen it)
Its a beautiful piece, that's for sure, i'd be interested to see what an expert says about it.
