    ART Sunday 11 Jan - Tyre question

    Thinking of going to the ART day at Hampton Downs this Sunday however I'm a tad unsure on how much tread my front tyre has left.

    Looking at the picture below, do you think I have enough tread left to take part in the track day? I don't want to pay, show up and be told there's not enough tread left

    Go get a new tyre, I use to marshal for track days and would not let you on the track with this tyre. Tyres wear at a accelerated rate on a track day and the less tread on the tyre the hotter it gets the faster it wears. Put some thing sticky on it will make the day a lot more enjoyable.

    I got out something to measure it with and have 1.8-2.1mm of tread left in the shallowest points. Still worth replacing?

    If tyre is up to wof level they can't reject you for that, as I've always been lead to believe.

    Tread is above wear indicators, they won't deny you, but after a couple goes, that could be a problem.

    Guessing you have insurance cover for the day? What do you think their stance will be if you bin it later in the day?

    Replace it;

    You want to gain the best experience from the day, you're not going to do that on a well worn tyre.

    I thought the whole idea of a track day is spending the majority of time using the sides of the tyres.

    Sure, just pop round to the junk pile of the tyre shop and knock yourself out.

    Sure its got warrentable tread but its squared off and feel like you are falling into the corners amd quite possiblly you will fall into a corner. Go get a new one and you will enjoy the day so much more and learn to ride a proper tyre and looking at the wear of your old one you do alot of motorway commuting and the new one will be scrubbed in on the sides from the track day
