Hi there
Thinking about getting a body kit to protect the new bike.
Anyone had the 3M paint protection installed? If so what did you think? Worth the money?
Im getting quoted $350-500.
Cheers

3M Venture Shield? Does exactly what it says on the tin, and it's well worth the price you've quoted (assuming that is a fitted price). They laser cut those niggers out so even lackadaisical Kiwis can't fuck it up too badly. Get it done before you pick it up.
$300-500 sounds cheap to me, but then from memory a GSR is a semi-naked bike. I've heard quotes as high as $800-1000 for faired supersports.
Good investment in my opinion. I assume 3M are good quality.
+1. Had it on both the Blackbird and the Triple. Near-invisible and works perfectly. Had the Blackbird done at a car place in Hamilton and the Triple by a guy based in Tauranga but he also travels to Hamilton and Auckland.
This things had it on from near new,tis why it still looks near new...amazing stuff and can only imagine the newer version of it will only be better.Certainly stands the test of time hasnt peeled off or coloured at all.No kits back then just bought rolls.
Be the person your dog thinks you are...
All positive then!
My bike is matte black. I hear they do a non glossy version, so will enquire.
thanks for the feedback. Should be money well spent as looking to keep this bike for a while.
Cheers
Ok so the matte black is more expensive, so its $500 to cover most of the bike (yes the GSR is a naked bike)
$350 was a quote just to cover the front of the bike and tank.
It does sound good, but Im gonna get a few quotes and find out how much of that cost is labour. Ive been told it should only take an hour or so to fit.
It does sound like a no brainer....but if I sell the bike in a couple of years wont people expect scratches and stone chips? Will the protection kit add any value? Im not so sure, but I know if I get a massive stone chip on my fairing next week Ill be gutted ha ha.
Anyways, cheers for the advice. Just gotta decide whether to part with the cash or not
I just got quoted for the kit separately.....$105.
$400 labour costs? Sounds a bit pricey to me.
Don't get me wrong I would definitely get a dodgy finish doing it myself but wonder if anyone would just fit the kit for me.
Is this the same product as the 3M film stuff that comes in rolls?
I've been thinking of getting some and applying it to my tank. I only want a small area on both sides of the tank. No bigger than an A4 size of paper on each side.
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
Do you know what's in the kit? I'm sure that when my Street Triple was fitted with the 3M kit 5 years ago it was more than that (just for the kit itself - labour on top). Just seems a bit light. I got mine professionally done and happy to pay as it was a flawless job with no air bubbles.
I talked to a vehicle signage company and they were willing to cut to fit whatever I needed. Don't know if all would cut the pieces needed so ask around.
It meant I would only have paid for the stone guard actually needed and a small cost to cut & shape the pieces. In the end I had them quote to also install.
Meh - layers and layers of polish!
BUT you've a matt paint - what are you meant to clean/treat that with? Can you get a flat wax? Never thought of that before.
