Cash stolen off motorcycle buyer at gunpoint by phoney seller

Damn - turns out it's not just Nigerian scammers to be wary of when selling your bike. When I was in the UK I was gob-smacked when a mate went to buy a car and took 4 friends and some baseball bats with him just in case. Guess it was only a matter of time before some low-life tried it on here.

"A New Plymouth man who drove to Hamilton to buy a motorcycle had his cash stolen at gunpoint after the phoney seller took him to a local farm."

"...the victim travelled to Hamilton to purchase a motorbike he saw for sale on a Facebook site that specialises in selling motorbikes."

    Glad I don't use facebook.

Dalston/Hackney. They were a pretty colourful bunch, but they were genuinely concerned that when they went to buy the car someone might pull a knife. This was pre-internet selling days so just going through Loot. I presumed it was a real issue - they'd be buying a pretty cheap car though, can't imagine it happening when you turn up to collect your Bentley.

Makes sense that this issue surfaces in Hamiltopia. Although the sceptic in me also thinks this has some of the hallmarks of a hoax complaint.

intresting the language used though 'threatened to shoot several times' leads to stronger charge than merely presenting a firearm...

That's pretty sad. Sorry for the guy who lost money. I went to buy a Chief up in Ohio in 2002. Had 16K cash in pocket. Had the trailer on the ute. The guy wanted me to back up in an ally, I made him meet me in a restaurant parking lot I had scouted out, lots of traffic in and out. I had a 9mm Glock under the seat (legal here with concealed carry permit which I have). Guy showed up on the bike, pulled it up on the trailer without even stopping. Had the paperwork in hand, exchanged money for paper, I trotted my happy ass back home to Dixie after I checked the bike out. I'm glad it went OK. It could've went the other way. in the 45 years plus I've been messing with bikes, only got a bike stolen once. Not bad. I hope my record remains that way.

A nine under the seat, whoa... if we were allowed those we wouldn't have to bother confiscating keys

That'd be awkward getting your shooting iron out from under your seat.

"Mister, reach for the sky. Keep them where I can see them. Where's the cash?"

"Err, under the seat. Can I borrow an Allan key?"
