    Just saying

    YMMV
That's probably what I would do with the bike. Seems like a very cheap legal way to acquire it. From their website: "If the item remains unclaimed after a sufficient period of time to make the necessary enquiries, you will be notified and invited to claim the item yourself."

Just not sure what this "sufficient period of time" is. But if the bike has been there for years, your chances are pretty good.

I seem to recall after handing lost property to the Police many years ago that the "time" on that occasion was three months. PM Scummy he'll know.

So, he came back with a trailer, checked with the cops that it wasn't stolen, and took it away. My bro-in-law wasn't a rider, so he offered it to me in exchange for me helping him with painting his roof and replacing his guttering - a few hours work one Sunday. The bike was rough - a CB250RS with an XR500 engine shoe-horned into it. A change of ownership, a clean, cheap repaint, new tyres, re-jet, and a free valve grind (courtesy of my uncle who was an engineering tutor at the local polytech - good lesson for the students), and it was back on the road. HEAPS of fun. Only cost a few hundred, and IIRC, I traded it in a while later for about $600 on a VF500FF.
I wonder if it is the same bike !

Was that bike left around Lake Karipiro?? Be over 20 years ago now. The guy who owned it was on his way back to Wellington from Auckland & it died on him (again).

He said he dumped it & hitched home.
