This guy gets it. May not be fun with the high maintenance on the 525 but like someone posted earlier the 400SM would be a solid choice.

You can't get more fun than a motard.

When I saw the original question my first thought was the MT-07. If you keep it in one piece you wouldn't need to change bikes as soon as you get your full licence.

The looks of the KTM may grow on you, some bikes are like that.

    A fun LAMS bike?

Thanks guys, just a bit short on funds for MT-07 brand new, so while looking at a good second hand one (which haven't seen one so fa) I am considering ninja 300 as well.

Read so many good reviews on. Ninja300 and suitability for beginners as well as a good bike to keep for a while. But as mentioned the fairing can be something to be aware in case of dropping it.

If MT0-7 was below $10k I would have gone for it.

I saw Duke 390 in the Hutt, sat on it and felt not comfortable at all. Might still take it for a ride .And it would take me long till the look of it grows on me

The 390 duke has some balls for a small bike. They will power wheelie in first gear.

You're rushing that a bit, the bloody things have only recently arrived in the country, it's a new model. There may be some demonstrators available in a year or so?

Didn't someone mention "tall and broad shouldered"? The KTM felt even smaller than the SR, which I'm not recommending if your personal definition of "fun" requires a reasonable number of horsepowers.

There was a military flavoured Royal Enfield 500 parked outside work here the other day. EFI and unit construction, guy used it as a motorised pushbike for blatting round town and doing errands on. under $10k brand spankers I think he said.

I really liked it. That or SR400 both under $10K and both offer a myriad of customising options. I really would like a second bike and one of those might just be it. Or a W650 Kwakka or a cheap Bonnie. except there arent any. August is a good time to buy I find.

Yeah, it's on the low side of "adequate", a PC and a pipe to get around all the emissions stuff is pretty much an essential. It's a shame, from a LAMS point of view, that the old dubya isn't actually a 650.

    A fun LAMS bike?

Well today I went and saw the new Benelli BN302, and even the bike wasn't available for test ride, i must say I was impressed.

It looks like a copy of Kawasaki ER-6N to certain extend , the seat is very comfy and the riding position was better for me than ninja 300.
Build quality (for$7k) is okay, you can see some gaps and lower quality plastic parts here and there. But overall doesn't look that bad at all (exterior , parts to be determined)

Albeit it requires to be ridden which I wait till the dealer bring a demo version. This bike is made in China which is evident (not as obvious as CFMoto), but I guess it had done through some decent QC.

The clutch and gearbox is not as smooth as ninja 300 (stationary with engine off) but should be tested on the road.

Do you guys have any experience with Benelli bikes ?

Why piss about with a Chinese copy of an Er6n when the real thing is lams approved? Or is it outside your budget?

The Benelli is their own motor, it's basically their new 600 chopped in half
