drz400sm vs husky te450

Looking through all the super motard options, really like the styling on the drz's, but seems like a lot of work to get any power from them. this popped up on trademe, looks pretty awesome, does anyone have experience with these? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=852318089

Compare the maintenance schedules.

DRZs aren't as fast as proper motards but they don't need an oil change every second time you start them.

And if you bang a 430cc kit in 'em with a flatslide card they actually come alive. And they're still axe reliable.

What sort of money are you talking once you have done the 430cc kit, carb, exhaust etc? The high maintenance doesn't bother me too much if the performance is going to be much higher

- Light

- Low maintenance

Although in the DRZ's case it is neither fast nor light until you chuck the previously mentioned carb, big bore, jetpack etc on it, which still doesn't solve the light problem, but then very few bikes tick all the boxes.

How much money do you have to play with and how much do you like doing maintenance? Serious question.

Idd get the husky and put oil in it every second ride. Still cost less to run than a race bike. I have other bikes I can rely on to ride the rest of the time.

You can just add an oil cooler to increase the volume and stretch it out.
Pretty well documented now so hardly frontier experimentation.

E model DRZ's have a smidgen more power allegedly.

Looking to spend no more then $6500. Don't mind doing maintenance as it will not be my only source of transport and I have a good size garage. Will be used solely for having fun around town and doing some Saturday runs through the twisties. Will not be racing it I prefer motocross

Awesome, looking at what's on TradeMe right now I reckon snatch up that TE450, great looking bike.

There's also this XR650 http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-857543768.htm which is closer to where you are, personally I'm not a fan on the 650 engine but lots of people swear by it so there's gotta be something to them.

And don't get me wrong, the DRZ is an awesome bike, I just wouldn't be keen on another one unless I wasn't able to keep up with the regular oil/flter/air filter/valve clearances of the 450 Euro enduro bikes.

Other option would be to pick up a dual purpose 450 and put some wheels on it, either Torpedo7 wheels or CBR250 wheels for which there's a great guide here: http://motard-supermoto-wheels.sport....net/index.htm, plus there are a couple of cheap sets of the CBR wheels on TradeMe right now. $1200nzd including sticky tyres, not a bad deal.
