Aye, but it does mean you already have one hand occupied.

Especially important it it is a good call.

Theory is nice but doesn't change the fact you're trading mobility and thermal freedom for a small amount of protection.
I make it a point to avoid getting into a fight in the first place, however as a hypothetical:

I agree mobility would be an issue, but I compare motorcylce gear to a knights suit of armour - trading in Mobility for durability certainly can be advantegeous. As for Thermal Freedom - most street fights are over after 30 - 1 minute, its not like going 5 x 5 minute rounds.

I think though you underestimate the amount of protection wearing a full face and a set of leathers with chest protector gives you - I have done a lot of sparring (mainly Ju-Jitsu and recently MMA sparring) and small amounts of cloth padding (for practicing leg checks against kicks) make a huge amount of difference to the amount of punishment a limb can take. Since with a Full face you don't really need to worry about being punched in the head (it might knock you round abit but its more likely to break their knuckles) all you need to worry about is your ribs/body which means a lower guard and allows you to take risks that you shouldn't/wouldn't take without it.

How do you know the phone was the problem? I put it to you that they would've found something to distract them with or without the phone. Correlation does not mean causation.

Attack the driver for allowing themselves to be distracted, not the scapegoat that is the phone. That logic will lead to the banning of everything, including motorcycles.

You only need one hand to drive an automatic. Even a manual can be driven quite successfully with one hand. I knew a guy with one arm that did exactly that - both left and right-hand drive.

All that proves is that the average driver doesn't treat driving with the respect it deserves. If they did a phone (talking only - hands free or not) would not be a distraction.

Texting, on the other hand. Must be treated differently as it takes the eyes of the driver off the road (unless the texter is able to text blind so that their eyes are on the road the whole time).

...I may go out and do some unpaid police work later, naked...I feel like being a cunt today...I wonder if some big hairy man would fight me...I would use protection over my 'helmet'...if he wanted to feel safe...

I remember as a kid watching 2 sidecar guys, in full race kit, holding each other by the helmet and punching each other in the helmet. They both walked away uninjured... SNZ probably stood them down or something.

In the heat of the moment. Gear won't hold you back. You'll be able to walk it off easier though.

Eating is as bad. Sneezing is worse. Sharting it right up there (well not really if you get technical).
Where do you draw the line? Do we need complete physicals and heart scans before turning the key? Should a GoPro come with big boy pants and a Police ticket book?

    Living is dangerous.
