He seems to have become a little more realistic about the price, in the last go around he was talking 7k!
IIRC the last 640Adv sold on TM was asking about that.

It's a US only model.
Sure it is a rare model, but most of it's rarity comes from the bodge-up that KTM created to fit the US market an Edelbrock Quicksilver carburetor (!) and supertrapps to meet USFS approval.

Thinking about this as a commuter (Rolly to Hornby), anyone owned one of these ? good/bad or otherwise, what are the things to look out for if any ? Im guessing steering head/swing arm bearings etc may need replacing.

Back in those days 250 trail bikes struggled a bit on the open road @ 100kph. A test ride @100kph would be a must i think.

Had a couple of XL 250s (sb?) when i first started riding and they managed 100kph ok...mind you im not that same weight now

They managed more than that too.

But he's right, not long after that the out-sourced, (to China) manufacture started neutering them, a HP/revs trade off for reliability in the face of lower quality I guess. A mates 70's TS185, for example would slaughter a 90's TS250.

I need some advice lads. I'm looking at buying this BMW Dakar f650 on trademe - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=864404064

Seems to me like alright value for money, as long as it's ok with those kind of kms on it. I've heard they are good for high kms, would this be a good bike?

I'm looking to do mostly weekends away with a tent and a camera, some offroad but not alot.
