I'd be keen on a lh switchgear if you have one?:-) that and fairing bolts lol

Sweet as, yup I will be happy once it's sitting in my garage, can't wait to get out there and do a back to back comparison between the 24 and 30 on the track, apparently there is light years difference.

I get the bike and gear on Monday, I will sort through it first and find out exactly what I have there...

Any of those cowlings race ones?

I should do, I'll add that to the list of things to look for when I'm picking through it all.

I have a fibreglass single seat that has brake lights. Remove the lights and block the holes and it is a race fairing! Doesn't fit over the stock coolant tank or my larger rectifier so I will most likely sell it.

    Hey guys, gals,
I'm the proud owner of a NC30 VFR400R, its not super tidy but its a great bike and I love our adventures. I commute on it rain or shine daily a short distance as I have no other transport currently, if I did I'd rather just be on my bike...

But today the poor old girl gave up on me, the engine developed a loud knock, lost power and then died altogether. To me, it sounded like either a cracked piston, or a piston hitting the head due to big end fault.

I would like to preserve the bike if I can but if I fix it I want to do it quickly, not have it sitting around. I think a second hand powerplant is the most sensible option would members here be able to give me any advice or direction in regards to buying a motor, I'm a bit lost and haven't exactly got money to burn..

I would also be open to trading it on reliable transport, it doesn't need to be perfect, just going and legal. If anyone has anything like this, contact me with details .
    Thanks people,
    Lee

    Thanks autech.

Also, I checked the sprockets I took off the bike and they are standard gearing sorry.

Silent, I have spare front indicators if it helps? Front and rear also might be the same, not sure.

Unfortunately tyga doesn't paint the nc30 stuff, I've asked!! If they did id be all over it

Sorry to hear of your bikes engine demise...

I'm sure Icemastro will be able to point you in the right direction for the engine. Might be a case of you having to get it rebuilt though as any 2nd hand units (if you can find one) will be bought with possible issues. I do recall seeing one not so long ago on trademe though, perhaps you could contact a few wreckers and try your luck/
I have a spare motor arriving on Monday which I am not sure of its status, I will most likely end up putting it together with the rest of the bike that is in bits though depending on how it is.

Odd re the engine - these things are pretty bulletproof. how many kms had it done, and service history? What does it do now, ie does it turn over? Engines are the only thing I don't deal with, a good person to talk to about rebuilding would be Lukemiller on here - he knows what he is doing with these engines. If you want to pay money for an excellent job (and he might have a spare engine as he has many parts) talk to AJ at motohous on college hill. There might be a chance action atomic on the shore have an engine also, as they have a couple of bits and pieces of an nc30 there inc a frame and tank, so you never know (ive never asked about an engine). The other one to ask is Gary at GP motorcycle wreckers down by tauranga, as he bought a bike of trademe a year or more ago now that he was parting out.

    Hope that helps :-).

Anything other than an engine I can help with mechanically, But I've never been into the inside of these before (never needed to!). In saying that, i'm probably due for some valve clearances, but it scares me enough that unless I have someone here going over it with me with spare shims, then I'd rather give it to someone like AJ who will do a perfect job.

It turns over but definitely had a major core engine fault before it stopped running. I haven't had a good look yet...
I want a second unit because of time and expense, I'm capable of building a very very good engine as that's a skill I have as a tradesman but even with my labour for free and access to a machine shop, its just far more economical to just get a second hand unit, plus the VFR is my primary transport I want to sort something out asap, you said it yourself, these motors are generally quite bulletproof.

Thanks for the leads man, I really appreciate the help since this is all a bit gutting lol.

awesome, sounds deafening! is that on a dyno?

So, may I ask why you are putting an nc30 engine in something? I mean, while it sounds awesome, the kawasaki engine would make a lot more power tuned...

the nc30 is more narrow for the frames i make , you would think the kawasaki should be better but found no real diffients in the 2 , i have the kitted race cams for both and made the not to far of the same power in both, 2 hp in it for the kawasaki , i think the nc maybe more a time bomb going of somone i raced with years ago but could be to do with how well you set a engine up , yep it is a dyno
