Endurance races are like that I suppose, you are constantly passing and lapping. As it was in those days you had 400 (then later 550) and open classes.
Quick learning curve I guess though ?
Don't know what it is about Endurance races but I've always been keen, way more so than the regular race meets. Couldn't tell you why though.

I'm the opposite, only did two riding.(upside down in one and mech failure in another). Did pit crews for mates in others.
Too much like F1 for me, pits stops etc.
Had a mate who ran second in the first Aussie 6 hour in 1970 by himself on a 750/4 honda. Did fuel stops and then ran out of brakes which cost 12 minutes !
A Bonneville won that one !!!!!!!!
    Nah not for me.

You'd never go hungry with Nigella Gaz.
If it weren't for flashbacks...I'd have no memory at all..

There's only a single class in the race so if a pre-82 can fit into the Superbike, Supersport or Superlite rules and the rider can get it around the track under the minimum time they should be good to go. Theoretically.

When Gary was talking about this at a trackday months ago it was mentioned that all bikes must be capable of lapping faster than 1:19. Most bikes would be capable of doing a 1:19...the riders on the other hand....

The reason we went with 3 bikes and 3 riders was because, "I didn't want you thrashing my bike" and "you didn't want to drop my bike and own it" and that each bike is set up to each rider. By opening it up to people that would only be using and wearing out their own gear did sound a good idea to many. So far in the first week of entry's being open we have had 16 complete 3 man teams paid up and doing it. we had 43 teams pre-register their interest in the Motul 6 Hour so we are more than pleased with the response so far and do expect the event to sell out

We have picked a qualifying time of 1.18.9 that you must achieve or under to be able to race. The Motul 6 Hour is open to track day riders as well but they must be able to qualify like everyone else, to get some of the fast track day riders out there racing must be a good thing. We wont be getting to many SuperBikes as the distance is to great for them and would need a rebuild at the 3 hour mark so I am told. You are only allowed 1 set of tyres per bike for 2 reasons, to keep the speed down and also the cost. if it rains (and it wont) you are allowed wets.

Getting track day riders into racing is a great thing and well done for getting this thing rolling. I like it. Problem is, the track day riders are normally put through Clubmans, which is specifically for people who have never done a race before. Mixing a large number of people who have never done a single race lap with those who have done thousands could get interesting.

Yes I hear what your saying, I would say all of the track day riders have been on the circuit with racers at a Playday or other track day events and have a good idea on what to expect, also doing a sub 1.19 at Hamptons you know what your doing. I think there will not be the importance to dive under someone in an endurance event as there is in a sprint race. 6 hours is a long time and everyone wants to finish. Yes it is a race but most people are entering to finish and have a bloody good day whilst doing it. We will be having pre event briefings for the first timers and racer as well as we will on the day.
Just a thought, what would the reaction be to a track day team on the podium

Many moons ago in order to enter a street race your race log had to have at least 3 track race meetings in it. Maybe something similar could be implemented to weed out the total novices.
