Maybe ask to take in for wof inspection and offer under 1k if it passes.

There is a Wellington trade in special place advertises on tardme also that takes traded cheap cars from other dealers that are below the dealership visual standards. Some may be very cheap for a quick cash sale at the yard.

They did make some 750-850cc two strokes, A few guys ran them in sidecars

Knew a guy who had one which was the body style of the 2 stroke but had as standard a Ford V4. German 1700cc version i think.
It was an absolute hoot to drive. Probably worth a fortune now.

Think mirage, charade, glanza, justy, starlet, primera? Carolla, barina. etc. Auto preferred (i think?) but not fussed.

An old diesel 3cyl pos might do, daihatsu, suzi...

dont mind a saab, rover, romeo, bmw etc i just have sfa idea about them.
Sub 1k and definitely not needing work for a few years is an oxymoron.
Think Clint eastwood and that scene''Dooya feel lucky punk--well dooya?"
pretty much that's the case with sub 1k cars.
    Sorry but that's reality.

i paid more for my stereo than my first four cars. Combined.

And it was enthusiasm that killed them, not any inherent shittery. So no. It isnt reality.
