New Zealand Flag - five-way poll

So. What's your choice? I have included the original flag to inject some sensibility into the debate.

Sensibility is the only thing that has been lacking in the whole debate ... Democratic decision for a want of change requires a democratic vote FIRST.

Then ... if change IS the decision of the majority of voters ... then is the time to decide what to change to ...

Who paid the panel that chose the "Final four" .... ???

Bullshit, democratic decisions should be made with understanding of the outcomes. How can we understand the outcome if we haven't decided on what to change to?

Of change flags I liked this one the best http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...462-Flag/page8 but of course it's not on offer! - (Better balance IMO)

I didn't think it necessary to change the flag that we have at the present time but it will happen anyway I guess - republic next - trendy fucks!

So on this poll - voted current flag.

Who cares would rather spend whatever the total is so far on paying someone to remove the piece of shit period that intentionally ran over the six year old in Porirua, this shit hole has far more important problems than a fucking flag.To be fair though i will vote for a flag with some recognition of our supposed natives if they in turn agree to fund there fuck ups.

Wouldn't it make sense to start with the referendum asking if people wanted it changed.
Seems odd to ask which one first only to possibly have no change. 2 referendums guaranteed as opposed to possibly 1 only.
Im not a smart guy but I could be onto a 13mill dollar savings here.

Simple maths, say 3 groups of 34%, 33% and 33% respectively; koru, fern, stick with current respectively. Assuming a divisive nature in which koru do not want to change to fern and vice versa. A poll to change, then a poll to figure out what to would give the 34% group the result. By first establishing what to, then checking that single outcome has majority, it ensures the majority of us would actually prefer the new one over the old.

If voting for the flag we have is a vote to take the smile of John Keys face lets keep the original one. Over seeing his smug I made my fortune from gambling OPM on the stock market face on TV.

Im genuinely struggling to understand the thinking of the flag situation.
WHY do they feel the need to have a referendum to vote on which of the four choices you would pick THEN "if its needed" another one later to decide if we change at all. 28 million reasons to settle if we want to change as being the first vote.

Democracy, see post #8 for further explanation.

Mind you, if you wanted a third referendum if the first one goes through, that could work too.

It makes it more likely that a change will be voted on in the second referendum.
That's why ,in the first referendum, you should vote for the worst option, not spoil your vote.
Worst option is the black and white monkey tail/hypnoflag.This is least likely to win against the current flag.

Lets put it in a way this forum will understand:

You have a big bike. A guy comes up to you on the street and says I'll swap your bike for a more appropriate bike for your lifestyle. No indication of what the replacement bike will be ... just that it will be a bike. Hmmm ... you have doubts because if you agree to swap you may get a scooter in return or you may get a Harley ... but hey, I don't like V twins. On the other hand it could be this year's coveted update of your current bike. Sweet! You're probably going to find it hard to make a decision aren't you ... and you certainly can't make an informed decision.

If however a guy comes up to you, has the same conversation as before but offers you four bikes to choose from that you can whittle down to one bike to weigh up against your existing bike then you're in a much better position aren't you. You can actually say yes or no and know what you are deciding upon.

And that's why there are two referenda.

    You're welcome.

What if I just told you (or him) that I was happy with my current bike so fuck off - negotiations not required - saving of time money and energy!

The poll results so far reveal that this is the most likely scenario! - therefore the flag issue is a political distraction - an expensive side show!
