Just spent a couple of hours pulling bits off the LCR, getting ready for an engine change and fixing a few little bits an pieces before we head up to HD
It's been a pig to start and hopefully the broken wire to the airbox sensor is the cause of that. I wont mention the water temp wasn't even plugged in
Need a helicoil in the rear hub where the sprocket bolts on, replace the rod end that cant be done unless the engine is out, new brake pads and change the fluids, new chain and change the gearing to suit the smaller OD Yokohamas
I also need to tidy up the catch tray a little bit and sort some exhaust leaks, get Pig to finish the new handlebars and maybe fit a longer pull throttle, pull the sidehub apart and replace the wheel bearings and the top rose joint there as well
don't think it will be out in the near future, being a rivetted bike and having down around six seasons at the front of the pack it's pretty tired chassis wise, it's alos andy's bike and he's got other things in his life to do but if we can get this rear end sorted, finding and mounting a new disc, repalce the cracked front one, a cylinder head then when he chooses to do something we a hole chunk closer
King of Ruapuna Rd 2
After not having enough of us for the first round this would be the first sidecar round Alex decides to stay in bed as the weather is a bit crap and Goober sounds none too keen to be going to it either
Regardless of the rain we head out and get set up and it is looking pretty dismal, Graeme turns up after not being out for a year which makes 4
Practice
It seems to start raining heavier as we line up and doesn’t get any better once we’re out there, it seems very slippery and we’re locking the rear brake when I try standing on it hard
James/Hayley go past us and I follow them down into T1 and we pass them under brakes, next lap they go past again and we go up the inside on the exit to T1 and pass them on the run down to pothole
Goober has newcomer Jessie out for a couple of laps before swapping back to Matt for another couple
Practice over and we’re pretty much cold wet and miserable but get the bike checked over and ready for race 1
James/Hayley have taken the top spot with me and Will on P2, Goober/Jessie on P3 and Graeme/ring in on P4
Race 1
We dial in about half the revs we normally would and get off the line fairly good and lead down into T1
The next few laps I can hear James/Hayley behind us, we’ve kept a bit in reserve and are running a fairly comfortable pace
I can see Goober/Jessie as we come around the hairpin slowly gaining on us but we have plenty of gap back to them
James/Hayley get a good run onto the straight and pass us, we chase them down into T1
They run out a bit wide on the exit and we pull past down into Pothole, we give the kerb a bit of a smack with the chair wheel and get loose on the exit and I just about expect James/Hayley to make it back in front and I can hear them right behind us at the hairpin but once we turn into the dipper I know we’ve got it in the bag and run home 1st with James/Hayley 2nd and Goober/Jessie 3rd
We’re checking the track and see it’s drying out so we swap back to slicks, Goober leaves his wets on because it takes him 2 ½ weeks to change the rear
Race 2
We get a good start and make T1 in front, the bikes developed a miss until the revs get up and it’s not long before Goober makes it past
The next few laps we run nose to tail, he drags out an extra few lengths off each corner while we make it back up under brakes
Down the straight he pulls away about 4 -5 lengths and we get right back behind him off the end and then lose another couple of lengths punching off T1 and then make it back up again into the hairpin and stick with him through the infield
We can’t quite get close enough to think about making a pass and he leads us over the line
Goober/Matt 1st, Warwick/Will 2nd, James/Hayley 3rd
We give the bike a look over and Will finds a loose plug cap and we check the plug which is looking a bit dodgy so we replace it
Race 3
Our best start for the day and we run down into T1 a bit hotter than usual, a lap later I can hear a bike behind us and as we exit Carousel Goober/Matt have the drive and move past us on the inside into the next right
We’re alongside but they have the line and we have to back out, we follow around through onto the straight and now with the bike running right we’re right behind them into T1
Goober/Matt like a wide line into it and we hold it a bit tighter, there’s a puff of smoke as Goober/Matt lock the chair wheel and then we’re on the brakes hard and making a move on the inside of them
We go in a bit deeper than I’d like and it cuts out exit speed, there’s a flash of red and White on the inside down to pothole but we don’t back out and are first through it, I take a defensive line into the hairpin so they have to go around us and as we’re turning in they’re trying to make an outside pass
We exit the hairpin and I’m gassing it up hard and the back breaks loose and flick sideways, I have to back out of the throttle for a fraction and that’s enough of a pause for Goober/Matt to outrun us into the next right
I start to go back up the inside and think better of it when Goober cuts across the nose, we’re on the last lap with not to many chances left, through the s bends and into Carousel , we run out a bit wide intending to turn in tighter and try and get back up the inside when it all turns to custard and we spin 270 degrees
A quick check to make sure Will is still on the side and we get turned around and set off again, we have a big enough gap back to third we don’t lose a spot but that give Goober/Matt a unchallenged run to the flag
Goober/Matt 1st, Warwick/Will 2nd, James/Hayley 3rd
Considering how cold and crap it is, a great days racing with some good close dicing between us
Now we’ve got a bit of a strip down, engine change, new brake pads, new chain and a few other bits to do before we head North for the Shorai at Labour weekend

Agip bike arrived in Auckland this week and have started stripping it for full rebuild, chassis goes to painters as soon as it's completely stripped. Will be back to original red colour.
