The non aggression pact was simply to avoid confrontation. Germany was in the position the Russians predicted/feared and they didn't want to go up against them. The Russians tried numerous avenues and requested, maybe you could even say pleaded, for help from the 'allied' forces for years beforehand. They were never in bed with the Germans.

If Germany had worked with the Japs they would have won (as much as anyone really 'wins' this kind of shit), but the whole 'master race' thing meant the Germans thought of Japan as future problem, rather than an ally (or even asset for the time being) and part of their grand plan.
