    Don't Mention The Rugby (Grumper)

Hi guys, noob from England here.

I'm currently turning my CB250RS into a street scrambler, currently fitting the front end from a ZZR250 (37mm forks) and Brembo 2 potter from a CB500. In my trawling of Google there are a couple of thread on here that have caught my eye. It appears that some of you have also tinkered with this bike. So hopefully we can swap info both ways.

    oh....and one more thing.....Shhhhh!

Saw the opening game England V Fiji.....got papped and our picture was on the CNN website.

Also saw Georgia v NZ All Blacks at Cardiff .........alot of pi55ed off guys in black when Georgia scored that amazing try

Off to see Barbarians v Argentina next week, hoping that'll be a great game, then off to Rome in the spring for England's 6 nations game against Italy.

Not just a rugby fan, love watching BSB, try to do a few rounds each year. Done SBK but find facilities at Donnington are pretty appalling. Snetterton is my local track Donnington and Cadwell are pretty close too.

Thanks. Looks like a lot of the guilty ones have disappeared from the forum

Lewis Hamilton and WSB Yes I forgot it was a stellar year for the German Car makers and Japanese bike makers
I had to google Chris Froome it appears he maybe some sort of drug enthusiast?

    Getting back to the OP

Chuck a XL/XR500 engine in it sorted.
Honda did a high piped Street scrambler in the early 90's not sure if it made production but it looked like the CL350 only better.

Here is one they did as a dirt tracker

Takes British engineers to get them upto winning spec.

Well who hasn't dabbled in a little recreational sell medication

I considered that, but to me this is about the build and learning new skills. Bike will be a keeper so time and money are not so much an issue. I see this as a hobby.

Not sure that ever hit our shores.

Id still go with the 500 as there is far more tuning parts available and its a much better starting point.Plus it would cost the same to rebuild as the 250 would, unless you are happy with 25 odd HP only.
Honda did an electric start mildly tuned up version of the XL500 engine of the same vintage with the Ft500 (that was a flat track stylized bike not sure if it was sold in the UK.) it was an ugly orphan.
But anyway the CB250RS only had 1.85 and 2.15 inch X 18 rims so they need to be changed to at least 2.5 and 3.5X17. from memory the swingarm is spindly and the frame is likely a little weak also.
For the the Street scrambler styling need a flat track inspired curved exhaust with magaphones id use supertraps make up some big bore double skinned high rise headers (so the inside of the pipes will be small)

Id go to the local muffler shop and buy the bends and cut and weld to suit.
it needs a small seat Haggon or Harglow or something I think do flat track styled XS650 in the UK (or they used to.) that had a suitable seat but plenty of stuff is available in the US.
Something like a Xl125S tank would likely go straight on. The CbRS tank is rather long in Café racer style

I'm not sure it went past the prototype bike show stage I tried googling it and came up empty
I will try and find a pic of one. It might have been a Japanese only model.

I know what you are talking about, but XL500 motors are fetching big money nowdays over here....that is when you can find one. Also weighs a bit more. I've had sports bikes in the past and became addicted to the speed. Just building a bike I can ride on my local roads, learning lots on the way. The fun for me is the challenge. I'm aiming for a sub 120kg cool/retro/upright bike that'll go, stop and handle well, perhaps give the odd Sunday morning sportsbike jockey a bit of scare through the twistys. There's a big trend to buy an old shitter and turn it into a cafe racer or flat tracker, but most builders tend to do the cosmetic stuff but fail the make their projects perform well as a motorcycle. The little (not that little) CB250RS was a hoot back in the 80's. With a stiffer front end, better brakes, 6 speed box ( I have the box, complete crank and balancer from a XL250R) big bore (336cc perhaps) and wide bars......it should be a fun bike to ride. My little RS was cheap, solid and has over 40k miles on her. Ill make some of my money back on selling off redundant parts. I've never rebuilt a complete engine, never really modified a vehicle so this is more than just the finished article.

All said and done I could just go out and buy a KTM of the shelf.

I couldn't remember what box they had, The engine from memory is based on the XL/XR RC motor so Powroll should have some stuff.
I just checked the site it looks like it is being rebuilt at the moment. but likely Ebay USA will have all sorts of stuff.
Honda machines the cases for each application with the % and 6 speed as normal anyway it might need careful shimming or slight machining.
