Worst part about these bikes is they turn them into something they are not. I got a fright one day pulling away from a stop sign. I'd looked and saw this push bike coming along about 40 metres away to my right, guy upright, not pedalling so i mistakenly assumed was doing about 8 to 10kph leaving me plenty of time to get across in front of him safely. Wrong! Was a lot closer than it needed to be as he was moving a lot faster than a treddly had any right to be.

That is a ridiculous underestimation of even an (engineless) fat, middle aged, smoker on a treadlie.

Dunno. I thought about walking speed and a half was about right for someone apparantly putting in no effort.

Speed tested one we impounded from a disqualified driver.

Flat stick it did 62 kmh. So it can't even be called a moped, let alone a power assisted pedal cycle. It's a motorcycle, and requires all the gear motorcycles do.

I reckon our rules aren't flexible enough to allow these things.

62kph on something with (probably) no suspension, tyres the width of my thumb and tiny brakes. Not for me thanks.

Yet I remember as a lycra clad road cyclist (I was on the school team) doing 85kph down one hill... (looking back that was insane)

On schoolboy gearing (limited run out) we sat just over 40kph along Tamaki Drive and back (team time trial), barely made the top 10...

Were you the ones, read cunts, (many moons ago) that were photographed in the Harold clogging up Tamaki drive with your coach in a car driving in the middle of the road screaming at the cyclists?

No coaches/vehicles allowed to follow. This was the schoolboy event every couple of weeks on a Sunday morning (no idea if they still do it).
