If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.

Gotta have something to put on youtube

I've always wanted to ride through the train tunnels along the coast, but alas the will to live is too great. Maybe if I go right behind a train....hold my beer?

    ...and a camera

Your stunt suggestion reminds me of a game I used to play......

Wot Tazz said. If you have to walk in the dark on a public highway with no footpath, it's safer for all concerned that you can see what's coming your way... so you can jump if you have to...

The other Tuesday night I was returning about 10.30 from the North Shore on the way to Sth AKL on the motorway.
I encountered a rider on a scooter doing about 70, wearing dark clothes and almost no rear or front lights.
The rider merged lanes without indicating or looking, he was very hard to see.

I doubt he realised it but a couple of cars narrowly missed him in the darkness, this happened in a couple of places.
He was all over the lane and changed without indication.

I saw this and slowed/followed him for several Ks, hanging back so that other road users could see him. (I am ATGATT)

My question is what would you do as a fellow rider?

FWIW I think you did exactly the right thing to keep a fellow rider as safe as feasible. We're not all born experienced...

And at night, carry something reflective or a torch which you shine towards the road in front of you, not in the driver's eyes...

And, BTW, I think the OP did the correct thing...

Surprised me I had almost all of the thoughts of the replies on here when I first saw the individual who narrowly missed by about 1/2 a metre of being the meat in a 2 car sandwich - I doubt he even realised. He was very difficult to see and didn't seem to be at all interested in other road users, changed lanes at least twice without looking or indicating.

He narrowly avoided this one. I was tempted to wack him on the head as I passed

Yes I remember you did this for me and I appreciated it, I would do the same for others. This guy had working lights they were just crap, a lit cigarette would have been better.

Looking back now, I am happy I followed him at a distance, didn't crowd him or give him a speech, just made sure he was OK. I wasn't in a hurry so didn't waste my time. Maybe he will think about why someone would do that. Probably thought I was going to steal his bike LOL

I ended up doing this apart from the kick - that would have been too good. (fuck em all? too much time on your hands down in Gore?)

In seriousness though - I would have minded my own business unless I had time to kill, then might have followed him to a set of lights and try and pass on some wisdom.
He was doing less than 70, it was 10.30 at night on the Southern Motorway in AKL at Mt Wellington hill going south where it goes from 3 to 2 lanes, lots of lights but not the type you are thinking of. He didn't look the type to stop and talk.

, yep did this for a while, why do some bikes have crap tail lights - isn't there a std?

This was my last thought as I passed him

I don't think there is an actual speed (could be wrong) but there is holding up traffic for no valid reason. Yeah some rules have good intentions but there's' an exception that often makes that rule look stupid

Rode in front of him, put in hazard lights and motioned for him to pull over in to a safe spot.

He wipped out a pocket knife, took out the rear light housing and fidgeted with the wires until the light worked again and rode off...
Nice but It wasn't me, yes Scorpios have poor rear tail lamps, its a wonder they don't put LEDs in but I guess its the model age we have here ATM

I agree with you. But sometimes I see dumb arse things someone does that kills/maims some other innocent person (rider or whatever)

Are you riding a scooter on the motorway? Always happy if you want to make me look stupid. There are multi lanes, you can pass anytime.

+1 on that, I see far too many peds aimlessly walking on the road (no foot path), blindly hoping that some driver wont run them over.
Was very bad in the winter-early morning and they wore dark clothes (they don't need hi vis - anything that's not jet black)
