Ride from Renwick to St Arnaud?

Hi was planning a ride from hammer to Seddon via molesworth through the to renwick and then I'd like to take the north side of the Wairau to st Arnaud is this last leg possible? Looks like it on google but has anyone done this. I have a ktm 525 so as much gravel as possible would be nice. The ultimate destination is motueka where my family is camping so any cool routes around there would be appreciated, I'll come home via the st Arnaud range track back into hammer and trailer Back to chch. You can't get all the way though the north bank to St Arnauds... or I should say there is no public access...
You can do it if yer know the right people and the river crossing is low...
I have tryed it from both ends.... trying to find away thought the forstrey tracks... always come to locked gates..


After the Moleworth take the taylor pass into Blenheim and give seddon a miss...

If yer heading to Mot... go to the pelorus bridge and take the Mungatapu track though to Nelson..
take the road on the left straight after the bridge on the Nelson side... track is sign posted...

Or maybe..... Hanmer to St Arnauds via the Rainbow hydro road... " better ride than the Molesworth"
$15 toll per bike..

Cheers for the heads up pete I thought that north bank road looked too good to be true. I'll probably come back via rainbow hydro or maybe head up through there and do that molesworth another day. I hate locked gates but assume it's private land so... There looked like a bridge here Dropped Pin

I have ridden the track through that forest many times from the end of the public road on North Bank through to the Wash Bridge, but always with permission from the forestry company that owns it, and only when guiding a group of riders whose behaviour can be guaranteed. Rest assured, in the summer that permission will not be forthcoming, as the risk to millions of dollars worth of trees somewhat outweighs the thanks that they might get.

As an aside, FFS, the town is Hanmer!

The bridge is (somehow?) privately owned. No idea how that works considering they don't own the river, but then again if they've footed the bill for the bridge and own the land either side...

Mt Patriarch is worth still worth a nudge, but is a road to nowhere so to speak.

Mt Altimarloch is also pretty sweet and directly on your route.
Fuel wise doing Taylor pass is about 10k more to the nearest bowser than fanging it straight to Seddons fuel pump (out the back of the supermarket) I think.

Although still seal I would go through Picton and take the Queen Charlotte Drive to Havelock too if you're not going to head up North Bank.

Yeah I saw a notice about the forestry rds around North Bank being closed already, and patrolled, probably due to the fire around Waikakaho.

Patriarch would probably be best left for another trip in that case. You'd probably want to budget approx 4 hours return to the SH6 turn off to do it.

When are you planning doing the trip? Depending on the day and time I might be keen on inviting myself, eating all the best bits of your packed lunch and fanging over the Maungatapu

Great site cant believe i didnt know about that! Im thinking leaving some time after say 12th jan but say before 15th jan weather dependant and would welcome the company )neighbor who i normally ride with has no rego) but my packed lunch will be probably a beer and pie at blenheim!

It is sign posted... goes off on the left up a rise with pine trees around it..
Turn off is on the seal...

going though the Taylor pass is a bit shorter than going out to the main highway...
From hamner to Blenheim via the Molesworth is around 220km....
Hamner to St Araunds via Rainbow is about 170km...

A round trip from my gate in Blenheim with out going into Hamner was 406km.. nice day ride...

Right where the last section of gravel meets the seal ... though the gate on the left
looks like a private drive way....
The seal turns into a gravel section where the road gets close the the river
at the very end of that section... gravel section in the middle of miles of seal...

PS.... If it's quite windy in the valley... Could be gale force up there...

Tis awesome. Dude who set it up has put a lot of effort into and maintains it to a high standard. Get amongst it if you think you have anything that should be on there

Sweet man, flick me a message when you know your plans and I'll see if I can duck away from work for a few hours.

Also, you don't have a brother up this way do you? I remember chatting to a dude with the same name (I think) and a 525 (at home) while I was wiring up a temp tail light outside of Hornby Mitre10 a few weeks back on a WR450.

If you're running low on gas it is a good 10k+ shorter to Seddon than any Blenheim bowser. Seddon is just a 24hr pump but good for a top up to get to Blenheim if feeling nervous. Last time I felt nervous and took Taylor Pass I didn't make it

If that happens you can just back track to do Taylors or shoot over Redwood pass.
