I have almost a month off!

December through to the end of January....
So, what to do, where to go....
Ride anyone? Maybe a two dayer, three, then use home base to restock, unwind and rest.
    Repeat for four weeks...

South may beckon if I can get on a ferry...then may just wing it DoC, here I come!

Have you thought about the Molesworth? You could then go to the Ashley Gorge and then try to find your way to the sea without using the roads (depends on how heavy your bike is) I guess you could then try going from the sea inland on the Waimakariri.

Mark - the DoC campsites offer top value in my view - enjoy your time off - cheers Stephen aka Aslan aka Oaters on ADV

Not to be the fun police, but the silt in the Waimak isn't worth the effort imo. Gets into everything.
Ashley, Waipara, Rakaia, Hurinui are all better bets, although admittedly not as convenient to Churchur.

That is very kind of you, many thanks.......I was looking to go back of beyond, so really am looking at DoC sites....
Looking at booking something relatively soon, but it will be after the Christmas rush! Meantime, I will explore NESW North Island first and use Home here as a shower, sleeping and eating facility!
    Oh, I am yelling!

Truth be known, I have been a tad depressed. Lost my closest friends. I want to park the work phone at work, disappear and go wandering....
    Escape, that's me...

    Hey WT
Yes I can understand your needs for a bike trip.
I'm heading off this Saturday for a trip around the South Island. Only 8, maybe 9, days, and I now have a road bike, so that will limit the roads I ride.
Taking camping gear so aim to overnight at DoC campsites, preferably relatively remote ones.
No real plans. If its raining on the West Coast, I'll go down the Molesworth....
Will post a report when I get back.
