I would rather bang my head against a wire barrier, it will hurt less than a brick wall.
But yerp if they make them safe for riders then go for gold. Mate in Aussie had a benign low side and slid into one, took his leg off and damaged his arm. He was feckin lucky a mate was a paramedic that kept him alive. If the wires had gone all the way down he may have some broken bones but that would have been the worst of it.
This is where BRONZ could / should get involved and advocate for the WRBs to be made safer.
The research has been done as to what is required to improve their safety. If NZTA and ACC were truly interested in reducing the costs of road accidents then they could get a university engineering department involved with it - perhaps a PhD for someone and practical results for all concerned.
Could use that that $30 ACC motorcycle levy thing from a while back to start a hemp farm to be used for winding between the existing barriers, cushioning the blow and removing the gaps (+economic benefits of it sequestering emissions, among other things... lol). Now, where do I pick up my PhD?![]()
I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
I really can't get my head around the Wrb angst. I'm probably not that smart, but I feel confident that I frequently ride past roadside hazards that could fuck me up far more than a Wrb.
