Lights go out when the guards say ...
Your cell is searched on a random basis ..
You only see the outside at rec time - when the guards get around to letting you out ...
You have to wear what they give you ...
Guards supervise your visits. Contact (i.e. touching your visitor) is a privilege

After watching the last couple of episodes of the 40 yrs of study that's being done on 1012 new borns, with their astounding results being replicated in other countries, it appears regardless of where you live or which so called level of society you come from, those early years (nurturing/loved etc) are crucial to our outcome.
The area researched on teenagers fascinated me and my long held view of chucking the little buggers into jail has changed and it seems our justice system is starting to agree.
Teenagers simply don't think the same as adults (Sweden class under 25s as children) we probably all did stupid shit as teenagers and luckily many of us didn't get locked up for it, it seems once you have been incarcerated your life takes a different path judging by our very poor success rate in those being released.
Time will tell, but research suggests once we get past those impulsive non thinking teen age years ( and having a decent upbringing) the majority become reasonable members of society.

The $100,000 per year inside formula is based on the amount paid to Arthur Allan Thomas. That was a long time ago now and if corrected for inflation would be about double what Pora has been offered.
The money will be placed in a trust in an attempt to control his outgoings but that will only be as good as the other members of the trust. If he buys even a modest house in Auckland that'll be half his money gone.
