Helen Clark and her bid for the UN job

Seems she's slipping down the ladder a little after her second big interview .

Why am I not surprised ? One look at her 'ever-angry' face and I wouldn't be voting for her either ...

As a woman her looks are the first qualification hurdle.

Are you confusing her with the queen?

    Sad isn't it?

Even others calling her "a power mad bitch", why? because she's a woman leader and should be at home doing the cleaning? It sounds like sexism to me.

There could be potential benefits for NZ having a NZer as the UN Secretary General but sadly too many people seem to make petty criticisms.

Don't see enough if any feminine qualities in 'Helen' to call her a real woman. She's married but lives apart from her husband and still calls her herself 'Miss' rather than Mrs. That's always been a concern of mine and not a petty criticism .

Her caustic approach I guess is something she was born with nonetheless but it still irks me and, no doubt has affected her chances of getting the top job. She never stood a chance anyway. Why ? She has no charisma ....

Yeah, she'll never be a successful political.......

Certainly not her biggest fan but you'd swear you guys were unaware of her just somewhat successful political career here with some of those comments. Pretty sure none of the outstanding KB brain trust have been the countrys head honcho

As for the UN vote, the whole thing is a bit meh these days considering most countries just do what they want anyway.

KB Brain Trust, thats an oxymoron.

I suppose if Helen Clark had climbed a high mountain we would all love her

It's always interesting to see how influential or talented men and women are treated differently. Susan Boyle was a classic example - universally condemned for her looks. A fate her predecessor Paul Potts wasn't subjected to, yet he had a face which resembled a nasty explosion.

Interestingly, such petty criticism is not solely a male domain, women can be just as bad at condemning other women on the basis of looks.

    A typically misogynistic view.

Not an uncommon situation for career international politicians and diplomats, but apparently only acceptable if you're male. Peter Davis has his own successful career. Would it have been better for him to give that up to suit your delicate sensibilities?

Wrong. She herself uses the title "Ms", not uncommon for women who haven't adopted their husband's name. However the media frequently use the title Miss. And yes it is petty.

Btw, how many threads do you need to start on the same topic?

It's basically a diplomatic role, isn't it? A diplomat she ain't...she's a highly skilled, ruthless politician, ergo exactly what they don't want.
