KTM 990/950 Adv thread

I also thought about an 1190R, but I promised myself that I wouldn't try and do he-man stuff on the new scooter (I have a road legal 450EXC for that).

So after almost 10 and a half years, the faithful old 950 is going on Saturday...


The best, most exciting scooter I have owned, happy everywhere from SH1 to the 42nd Traverse.

To be replaced with this, which I'm picking up tomorrow:

I sold mine as well just recently, Am still grieving a bit but must move on, great bikes for sure but time has caught up with them a little now

I think if the 990R was still made it would still be the go to adventure bike for those who wanted to spend more time offroad.

I really needed to be 6'5" and 110kg for my offroad needs, plus being a KTM mechanic would have been a bonus as well

Looking at a KTM690, doesn't have the led rear tail light but a if square jobby. Searching online it seems the standard one has issues, is this common?

This is famous last words - I bought an 1190 in August and crashed one on Dec 4th during the KTM Rally.
I only started walking without crutches last week...

Ride report - bought one, rode it 250km, crashed some else's 1190r, sold my 1190.

The one way bridge is on the Kawhia Harbour Road, I think.

I got almost 2yrs out of my 990 before having to use crutches then selling it ....hope your recovery goes better than mine didn't

your report does sound painful.... owch both bike loss and injury

ya not missing anything until your foot needs the protection only a well sorted MX boot offers, particularly if you're off road on a BIG adv bike! ....but if you never need that then any old shoe will do I spose

The doc reckoned the boots saved my Achilles' tendon., even after a couple of years I still have some trouble with that foot.

Having an ankle joint in the boot making walking not too bad.
worth the trouble of wearing them though
