He's trying to employ the tactic that he often accuses me of doing.
The significance is that the piles of discarded shoes are evidence of people who were wearing the shoes and are no longer wearing them. Tied in with testimony of people saying that after they killed them, they took their shoes and other possessions and piled them up. Therefore the photo of the shoes backup of the testimony.
Katman is trying to say that since the height of the shoe pile (which is clearly very tall) is not the height estimated in the testimony, the testimony is wrong and the Holocaust didn't happen.

Its a diversion tactic for those that have run out of an argument that sounds plausible.
For what ever reason the Germans kept the shoes of those that they killed. But didn't tie the pairs together. No idea what they thought they would do with them.

If there wasn't a picture of a fuck load of shoes - not much.
However, because there is a picture showing a very tall pile of shoes (which given the height of the buildings that they are next to, is probably closer to 10-12 meters) it add credence to the testimony.

Having said that, we don't know how many shoe piles there were, & the jews may have been like my Mrs & had 60 pairs of shoes each.
Realistically, that pile of shoes may only belong to one person.
