So the company policy is the well being of other road users is irrelevant until someone complains correctly?

If only you knew the level of BS driving complaints transport companies get... Some anonymous rant on a social media platform wouldn't even register. Even before the days of *555 and god forbid dashcamsandsocisl media their were all sorts of frivolous complaints...

Companies take safety and driver behaviour very seriously these days. Complaints fines and accidents impact on the OSR scheme which directly affects rego costs and insurance.

If something is a legitimate safety concern a road user should phonethe police immediately. Not wait hours or days later til you have time to whine about it on social media.

Idiots like the original poster only serve to upset truck drivers and give bikers a bad name. Thank god a lot of truckers also ride bikes and work 14 HR days and don't have time to whine about some of the piss poor riding they see....

Do you think that it'd be safer for all road users if truck drivers kept to the legally allowed driving hours?

Now there's some sense in that assertion, unfortunately.

For all we know, said driver has been spoken to. Certainly would have in our outfit if this type of thing surfaced on social media.

A workday 14 hrs from start to finish is actually legit, as stupid as this may appear to many. Achieved by 13 hrs duty plus 2 x 30 minute unpaid breaks.

I'm far from convinced that driving over 14 hours is widespread. Yes it happens , a few may do it regularly but if you are doing line haul it becomes hard to keep your log book straight enough to avoid close inspection by CVIU.
I've been over hours, if you get a blow out at Maramarua heading back to AK & are out of hours by the time you get going are you really going to park up. It was not a habitual thing .
I don't think any reputable company would allow it.

A lot of bikers drive like cocks too. Including myself on occasion. The difference is I'm not paid to drive for a living and if I shoot into the back of a car it will leave a nasty dent and a smear on the roof but it won't flatten it like a pancake and instantly kill everyone in the car. As much as we would all like to flip our colleagues and customers the bird or "accidentally" knock the boss on his arse in the corridor we don't - well not without loosing our jobs or ending up in court.

A question on this point of your post...

If you were to be paid for driving your car, would you drive differently?

If I had paying passengers, or a 20 ton truck I would be more cautious. Aren't you more cautious with a pillion?

I can't speak for jb, however my answer would be yes.

Just as when computers were just a hobby I took less care about the sites I visited and didn't much care that I drove the crappiest hardware known to man well beyond it's intended use and often crashed.

When your livelihood depends on something you treat it differently.
For the last decade and a half my income has to some degree been dependent on my having a clean license.
Consequently I rarely speed and it is unlikely to be by much.

Going back another couple of years before that I did my heavy goods and trailer licenses. My perspective on the road changed then too.
Far more aware of what other road users can and cannot see, and how valuable a little patience is.

If I were driving 10 hours a day I'd like to think I would make good choices around nutrition, sleep, exercise... and be man enough to take a break when things got to me.
I don't always succeed at those things now... but then I don't drive a multi tonne killing machine for a living.
I do a pretty good job of staying alert and not hitting anyone for the 10 hours a week behind bars and the 5-10 hours behind the wheel.
If I crash and burn at my job money is likely to be the only loss, a lot of it, but still only money.

My question was on this sentence that you wrote...no mention of paying passengers, or a 20 ton truck. You could be Pizza delivery driver.

    Of course you do..

It always bemused me when the boss would call in those who'd received traffic offences in the company fleet..
If driving on company time, I considered it a basic duty to drive within the road rules. Period.

On my own time, & particularly on a bike - it is a much more a matter of personal choice/judgement...

If my job was to drive then yes I would be cautious about loosing my licence for speeding or careless driving. I wouldn't flick the finger at someone in a sign written car in company time.

    Guess who!

Must be the same guy, or company policy.

Unfortunately he timed it wrong, and couldn't get the truck moving fast enough when the right hand lane started moving again

Until next time, mr professional truck driver
