Doh. the new ones are wet sump so the space previously taken up by the oil tank is used for electrical bits. but yeah. cool bike.

Ima take a Scout bobber out as well as the other stuff.

Actually ... the fairing and fiberglass bits cover almost everything but the seat. I have an old XJ750 (fuel injected standard) and it has the exact same "fairing". And looks exactly the same with all the bits removed. Fucking ugly ... not that it was that pretty to start with.

This I like. I'm a fan of the Scout. Be interesting in the comparison with the HD make sure you take the 'big' engine Scout (I don't know if NZ gets the small one).

nAH, THEY'LL STILL BE DRY SUMP MY FRIEND. tHEY'VE PROB JUST PUT THE OIL TANK ON THE SOFTAILS WHERE IT IS/WAS ON THE dYNA'S AND THE flh ENGINES, INSTEAD OF UNDER THE SEAT WHERE THEY USED TO BE. Cunting caps lock button!

have a soft spot for the old FJ and XJ series.. For some reason we only got {UK} the 650 turbo with the fairing, would have had a serious look at a fairinged 750 injection had they been around.

young guy at work has just put my old FJ1200 back on the road, done a good job with it too. Those old FJ/XJ lumps were well sorted/designed motors.

Nah. Whilst I could be well wrong again, think you'll find that the oil tank on the softail motor, is simply where it's always been on the Dyna's and FLH's. You won't want a crank the size of wheel barrow tyres spinning in oil. I cannae see this engine being wet sump, as they ain't no sump on it. Mr Journo has got his wires crossed I think. Check the oil feed off the cyl in the pic. That goes to a sep oil tank me thinks. But hey, as said, I could be well wrong. Have to go see one in the flesh.

Here's a pic of the Breakout mate...you can spot the filler for the sep oil tank under the rear shock preload adjuster.. So, from the engine pic, you can see the power unit, it's totally sep to the oil tank. So not true wet sump. It just has an oil tank, when the sump may be on a four cyl etc....Click image for larger version.

Ah, so. thats interesting.... I never grovelled underneath it but I definitely will now. On a separate note I thought the great big knob (hur hur) above it was the oil filter not a preload adjustment knob!

Nah. Oil filter is at the front of the engine unit, above the oil outlet tube, with it's back to us. Many bikes have oil tanks sep from the actual crank cases, so as to be dry dry sump. Think TRX850 etc.

Every NZ dealer should tell them to go fuck themselves. Not that it'd matter in the grand scheme of things.
