98 cents.....? sounds like fake news to me

59.524 cents - National Land Transport Fund
6 cents - ACC Motor Vehicle Account
0.66 cents - Local Authorities Fuel Tax
0.3 cents - Petroleum or Engine Fuels Monitoring Levy

In addition, GST is collected on the overall price of fuel including excise. The GST on excise amounts to a 10 cents per litre "tax on taxes".

There are no excise taxes on diesel other than 0.33 cents Local Authorities Fuel Tax, and GST. Instead, diesel vehicles pay Road User Charges. All fuels also pay an Emissions Trading Scheme levy (approximately 3 cents per litre).

I'm happy to pay an extra tax if they can reduce the congestion. Maybe a huge tax on new/used imported cars.
It’s even harder being government when you do unpopular things that just a few months ago you promised not to do.

Why do government's need to be popular, its not a reality show. Its like Parents trying be best friends with their kids.

Is the desire to get voted back in mean sitting on your hands for 3 years?

Moving at more than 5kph is inherently dangerous as our bodies are not designed for impact at higher speeds.

So, with that in mind, how about those women in high office fuck off trying to tell me how the fuck to live my life.

Most people are good folk (tm) but we shouldn't all be held accountable for their others actions. Ban bad drivers, mandatory tourist temp license tests, whatever - but don't fuck with my freedom to move at speed. You might not like it, but I don't like half the crazy shit people get up to these days. Doesn't mean i'm going to break down and tell them it's now illegal.

"The rate of newly diagnosed HIV infections was stable at around 100 annually through the late 1980s and the 1990s but rose sharply from 2000 to 2005. It has since stabilised at roughly 200 new cases annually. Male-to-male sexual contact has been the largest contributor to new HIV cases in New Zealand since record began in 1985."

HIV kills heaps of people (decreasing with time but still over 100 people per year) and it's mainly due to gay sexual conduct so when are we going to ban that?

    Ischaemic heart disease (joint)
Suicide (male) / Breast Cancer (female)
Lung cancer (male) / Cerebrovascular disease (stroke) (female)
Cerebrovascular disease (stroke) (male) / Lung cancer (female)
Motor vehicle accidents (male) / Colorectal cancer (female)

When was the last time you went to Maccas and the lady looked at you and said 'nah mate you don't need this burger go get a salad'? That's right it doesn't happen because that would be fucked up and take away your personal freedom.

Why is it different for the roads? Some people are just fucking idiots but i'm not going to live my life by restrictions that should be placed on THEM and not ME.

Fucking government telling the whole country how to live based on the bad decisions caused by the minority, get fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked

I've got a lot of sympathy for the Libertarian perspective, I also have sympathy for the necessity of a set of rules, to have a functioning Society.

I'm okay with having a speed limit, I have issues with it being made a scapegoat because a lot of our major aeterial Roads are single lane, undivided shite (among other things).

I was just thinking (do that from time to time !) I turn 69 next Tuesday, what is a good age to just stop paying speeding tickets like fuckwits do apparently.
I can easily become a fuckwit and toat up a huge backlog of fines .How long before I get sent away for a holiday ? Wonder how I would be treated ?

Anyway , I don't believe speed limits will be dropped to 70kph ,it's just fake News !

If they want to be reelected being popular really helps.

It was your reference to "local roads".

Since you wanted to live in a scenic paradise with empty roads, you pay more for petrol because it has to be transported to those locations. "User pays" is the term, apparently.
Auckland has a pipeline direct from the refinery (when some yokel hasn't fucked it with his digger...).

    You already are.
There have been previous tax hikes to "fix Auckland's traffic". It just proves how badly managed they wasted those dollars.

technically labour weren't elected they just strung together the biggest group of losers so popularity doesn't seem to factor.

I think the Waterview Tunnel has made the traffic flow better, I did not use the motorway from Highbrook to Penrose for a couple of years and now i use it daily. Use the suitably battle scarred van now as I'm over larry lane changer Tommy tailgater and Texting Twats.

When working in town use the bus lanes, and if I have to look presentable take the train.

Hardly what I would call wasted.

roogazza....about 69 and a half, if you start now acumulating fines you should be sent to prison at about 80, which will be great because you will be better cared for, good meals, free lodgings, no bills, and better of than these poor old bastards in Rest Homes and retirement villages getting ripped off and abused by there unqualified carers, sound good.

Yeah, been considering that answer myself actually. I see on another forum that an 80plus year old in the UK has killed an intruder - and been arrested.
Opinion is divided as to whether he should be commended - US style - or congratulated for having avoided the rest home.
