man that cyclist was a bit cheeky undercutting the dude then pulling into the middle of the lane. i'd prob give it a squirt to get away from that mess as well.

Just being a bit picky I know, but its not NZTA law. It's NZ Gubbermint law.
If you want the law go here.
http://www.legislation.govt.nz
Anywhere else, including the NZTA site, is an interpretation of the law.
Also note that the words "Filtering" and "Lane Splitting" don't get a mention in our law. They are covered by the Land Transport Road User Rule 2004 section on passing, as you hsve noted above.
If you want the law, read the law.
Actually ... you are the only one that associated that post with actual LAW as it is written ... I clearly stated it was NZTA legislation (as it was written in their website) in my post to suit my own agenda ... in my post. (I thought THAT would be obvious. Obviously not)
Perhaps your own interpretations of what is posted need to looked at more closely.
AND ... I made NO mention of lane splitting or filtering as they are not mentioned in any legislation by those terms (as you said ... but described under the overtaking rules) so why did you mention it .. ??? This is also mentioned in all the lane splitting/filtering threads in KB.
When life throws you a curve ... Lean into it ...
As I stated in an earlier post ... crossing the solid yellow line on your side of the center-line is legal for some purposes ... just illegal to overtake vehicles in the lane used for traffic in the opposite direction when that solid yellow line is on your side.
As I see it written (ie: my interpretation) ... you are not allowed to CROSS the solid yellow line to overtake/pass. Riding on the solid yellow might make your overtake legal ... or not. The secret is just not get caught ...![]()
When life throws you a curve ... Lean into it ...
I've passed cars in that spot hundreds of times before they changed it to double yellows. The only "dangerous" thing in that edited video (I never saw the 200kmph one) was the cyclist undertaking.
The "illegal" stuff was the dude crossing the yellow line and perhaps the car for not pulling over to let them through at some stage, which as we all know NEVER happens enough in NZ causing people to get impatient and do dumb shit, which I am sure we have all done at some stage and got away with it.
What concerns me is people like that that can't drive for shit on twisty road are also let loose on our city streets where at any time a kid could run out and it's only hope of surviving is the drivers reaction time and driving ability... But hey as long as they indicate for 3 seconds in their license test they surely can drive good?![]()
When I rule you all (and I will....) there won't be a need for very many driving licences because all cars pretty much will be self driving. So manual operation of a motor vehicle will be reserved for "enthusiasts only".... eventually they will be deemed too dangerous for the Kings highway and relegated to closed courses and private roads only. Problem solved.
