Well no, to be fair it shrunk a bit, it didn't burst.
The 15 to 25 chums probably didn't do their homework & piled on in there in a great panic before it was 50k a HA, I mean dairy farmers aren't usually the sharpest tools in the shed.
If they hang in there they will eventually break even at worst.
Selling in a downturn is the behaviour of the desperate or easily spooked.

A lot of farmers brought at near 100% do the maths using the equity thye had in other farms the secnd farm along with the first is worth significantly less now so they owe more than 100% of its worth.
The bubble most certainly burst, the only reason more here were not wond up is the banks couldn't find a buyer in such a depressed market.
You need to remember these farms have also been running at a loss for likely 6 of the last 8 years.
There is a lot of variability in the intelligence levels of any industry, But you need to consider in boom times you have banks tripping over themselves to lend money to farmers.
Selling isn't necessary a desperation thing but you need to consider the average age of farm owners is likely near the Pension limits.

You can use the system where they drill holes variously in the internal or external walls & pour in polystyrene beads.
This system is a little dangerous as they can get into the flush boxes & cause fire if they aren't sealed up prior to installation.

200 million for a gun buy back is a one off cost to make NZ safer for ever, its only a few john key flag referendums.
