Yes I understand how ransomware affects systems - I work for a company that was attacked. The backups were air-gapped (tape) so unaffected and we were back to a point (about 6 hours before the attack) within a day. This was in the early days of ransomeware so we believe all they did was encrypt, not download to spread around the internet. Obviously the malware had become a lot more sophisticated since then. Incidentally many people would consider tape storage as old tech, but an 800Gb dump would only be a fraction of a single modern LTO tape cartridge

A Ukrainian one of personal agency, collective action and political participation.
Historically, Ukrainians even elected their own priests. For centuries, the local priest was your Facebook, Twitter, etc.
(Easy to see why Ukraine has western sympathy & support)

The Ruzzian problem with Ukraine is that it 'Exists' (and since rejecting a Russian puppet government was starting to thrive).
Ukrainians are just inferior Ruzzians who need to be brutally crushed, shown the error of their ways and be taught to submissively belong to the Empire.

Good post. I particularly liked the reference to the priest as a source of news. The phrase "movers and shakers" is these days commonly used to describe politicians and captains of industry and the like. Originally the phrase referred to the poets and troubadors who travelled the country visiting towns and villages, bringing with them news of the outside world.

Russia is about as far from communism as it possible could be, it is a conservative right-wing dictatorship.
