Road Spikes, now on the approved list for stopping us?

Tom Phillips hide and seek champion of new zealand, on a quad, with fuck all lighting, had some road spikes thrown out in front of him.
He was carrying a passenger, no ide if they had helmets, nor did the copper I would suspect

Interesting tactic, and one that many would like to see used on the clowns in south auckland and other places who move around in mobs on 2 3 and 4 wheelers.

Is this now on the police manual out there?

cops up here don't even see the scrotes on motox bikes! But they absolutely use the spikes where they can, wrt to fleeing drivers

Its not like they just blow the tyres out tho is it? I was under the impression that it does a quickish deflation rather than instant. Wouldn't be fun on two wheels

Spikes are actually tubes with a very sharp point, like 3mm hyperdermic needles, and they detach from the delivery strip and stay in the tyre. I picked a stray one up once in the rear tyre of a BMW K1200LT. It was just like any other 'quick' puncture I've received.

Changing circumstances lead to changing methods. There was so much crime from scooter mounted thieves in Britain that the cops were given the OK to ram fleeing scooters with their cars.

Stop being so damn sensible. This is KB, just let us chase the worm holes.

Spikes used in road spikes are hollow, intended to allow the tyre they are embedded in to deflate.

The policy says that can't be used against motorbikes as they are inherently unstable. But Tom was on a quad.

They are not us, they are us disappeared with the last regime. This govt was voted in on not mucking about with crims and police instructed not to pussy foot about anymore.

I understand some sympathy for the side in the pork pie hero vein battling the ex wife for custody/child support payments that a lot of kiwi fathers suffer through.

I would like to refer you to comedian Chris rocks vid on “how not to get your arse kicked by the police”.

Step one is pull over and stop for the disco lights.
    Step two follow lawful instructions…

Anyhow I would suspect that using said quad bike to ram your way into a commercial premises indicates the rider had no concern for personal safety. if he was operating a business that would not be the correct health and safety protocol for entering a premises without the right keys. Also one assumes he was carrying a loaded firearm on said quad bike which is also a major law breach.
It is the vehicle operator’s responsibility to make sure their vehicle has adequate lighting and that on a laned road they drive at such a speed to be able to stop in length of visible clear lane ahead..

If your worried about how police might interact in requesting you to stop that much perhaps look at who you are riding with and the manner of your riding. 99.9999% of nz bikers will not be riding in fear of road spikes.

There had to be more going on with him than that, to disappear for so long in such extreme circumstances, and the tragic irony is now he’s responsible for the kids losing their father forever.
