Temporary Streetstock tyre rule

In an email recieved this morning by myself and approx 30 other people as I understand it.MNZ have decided to leave the rule as per pre July the 1st ie:grooved slicks may be used up until a final decision is made at the meeting in September BUT if a race meeting is declared wet then NO streetstock racing will take place.Hows that gonna work during the winter?

and the'r refunding us all our expenses if it rains are they??

Streetstock riders have to learn how it handle the rain too!

Or should streetstock riders only learn to ride in the dry,
and then only when they move up to faster machinery,, suddenly experience Wet Race conditions!

What the fark is our pinko lesbian, tree hugging, whale saving, PC world comming too. It might be a little dangerous to race in the dry too.......I actually saw someone crash once in dry conditions.

I second that, the only reason MNZ have made the ruling in the first place is because if someone gets hurt they'll get in the poo...comes back to the "everyones a criminal" thing where "there's no such thing as an accident its someones fault"

How about people just look at the friggen evidence of the riders on slicks in the wet vs amount of crashes!

Screw those crappy grooves in tyres, they are totally over rated!

yea you do but if someone gets hurt for as they see it, being because of an unsafe rule, then the likes of MNZ get in the poo for having that rule. If a rule isn't followed by a steward then they take it upon themselves if anything goes wrong

they are not worth the paper they are written on, the police will ignore them and prosecute at will,

That totally sucks! I agree with what has been said, us noobs need to learn to ride in the wet and learn to make decisions while the consequences are relatively low.

It's no wonder why the confirmed list for Rnd 3 is so low!... Or is that still to be updated?

I dont think anyone runs slicks in north island SS racing do they?

Sorry to say, but there are three versions, all quite different.
The one I'm sticking to, and I rang Johnny Hepburn Board Member, Road racing to confirm. On appeal from the riders the board have accepted that the consultative process has been "less than ideal" and there are a lot of errors and unresolved matters within the new rules. On top of that, the loose promise that MNZ would use their leadership position in the sport to secure a reliable and economic supply of Road Legal tyres, didn't happen. The official line is "it's best for the youngster to develop sponsorship relationships".
A local youngster here was quoted $400 plus fitting for a set. (NOT Pitlane, they're good guys for sure) Yep, another Tui ad line that one...
So there's a tyre shortage, and prices are through the roof. So for that reason alone their needs to be a transition period. The current rule allowing slicks (we voluntarily groove them) is extended to Sept 1st. On August 18th there will be a meeting here in Chch to discuss and agree on ALL matters. Final. Good.

If the experts along with their lawyers decide a slick with grooves is unsafe on a Streetstock bike, why is it safe on an FXR 150 Min Road Race? Or even a Young Junior Road Racer on F5 bike?
If this technical myth that says grooved slicks on slow, low powered bikes
with skinny rims are dangerous, will Min RR be next for Road Legal tyres only rules?
Miniature Road Race people, think about this and get your facts together
before some similar crappy rule turns up with a few days notice. (Yes, "Safety" rules can be changed in 5 minutes)

I run GPR 70s and will prob run the newer dunlop now.

Why use slicks on a streetstock bike!?

Its not like they are going to run out of grip! TT900's and others are more than sufficient(sp?).

Then if it does rain, theres nothing to worry about.
