My first bin (ARRRRRRRGGGHGH)

righto my first rite of passge here

binned it for the first time

was coming down mt eden road off the summit, was following a white tourbus through the lights. those buses are the ones that are basically a white wall at the back with teeny weeny little brake lights on the far outside edges. the bus braked a bit hard, i didnt register until i realised the white wall in front of me has stopped moving. i braked hard and bike slid out under me and dropped it on the left side

casualty list:
- left mirror
- left indicator
- gear shift lever
- scratches on fairings but i can live with that
- slit on the knee of my draggins, was about half an inch below where the padding ends so i got a bit of a rash on my knee but no biggie

lesson learnt:
- its hard to tell when white walls slow down or stop

fortunately when i dropped my bike right side last time i was smart and ordered pairs of parts so i can repair both sids hahaha

Gutted. Hope you can get the replacement bits on quick and get back out there. You've got to be paying so much attention all the time. Glad you came out mostly OK.

Gah! Sorry to hear about your bin ... and you were doing it sensibly on the ride out to Kaiaua yesterday, in the rain and through the twisties!

I guess the change back to an urban environment caught you unawares?

Glad to hear you are relatively okay - nothing a bit of cash and elbow grease can't cure on your bike, replacing bits on bodies not so good...

Chalk one up to experience, and its a classic case of "keep your wits about you!" If you need a hand banging, bolting or blinging things up, I'm only a PM or a Spanner night away!

Wasn't that tempting the fate of the biker gods? Nah, all good ... I like your boy scout "always prepared" attitude! Now, going to cut some holes into the fairings and install some sliders?

thanks for all the replies guys

1.5 hours of spannering later bike is ridible again.

fixed and tweaked a few cosmetic things on the bike too (cracked fairings etc)

indicators and mirrors i had under my bed, gear shift lever i made out of a stainless bolt. at the moment its just a bolt sticking out of the lever but i m going to get a metal spacer made up and maybe coat it in some rubber (note probably gonna be a garnen hose)

topped up the oil with some castrol magnetec (yeah not dedicated bike oil but hey oil is oil) and lubed the chain, finally figured out how to lift the rear wheel up in the absence of a paddock stand. its amazing what you can do with a bottle jack in the right place.
