In the UK, the not flicking the lights on until well over licence speeds has been used as a defence succesfully. Basically, it's regarded as entrapment. Don't think it'd work here though.

I got busted for almost exactly the same thing once.

    Never turned up at court.

Got $830 fine in the mail.

No loss of licence apart from the instant 28 day thing.

Any ideas what i can expect from the judge, fine and extra loss of licence?.Over 35 years of age,I have no history of court or any big speeding fines in the past.I note the max instant fine is $630 for 50kmh over, but i was wondering if i can expect more or less (considering i have lost licence for 28 days on roadside), anyone been through similar. zelto beating the feet now, cheers!!
Mate, I would expect you to get the book thrown at you, however, here is a bit of useful advice I got as I was in a similar situation recently. Make sure you appear in court and apologise, also keep a very good lawyer on speed dial oh and really dress well for the event, that way you will have a higher chance of just getting a large fine and waiting for LTNZ to take your license. Now by way of fines, expect something between 500 and $1000 thats without court costs added. I very much doubt that the court will try and take your bike like they attempted and failed to, with me.

    Good luck mate!

I noticed that too, I was thinking how the hell does that work? Then I saw the picture of the trail bike and it all became clear -- All fine and dandy if there happens to be a bush next to the road!

Good luck trying that with a GSX though

'Bout 5 years back I got stopped doing 153km/h in a 100 one night between Kaikoura & Blenheim. Wasn't going anywhere near that speed - maybe 125 tops.

GPS said I hadn't gone over 131 in the previous 1000km. Was clocked from over a kilometre away. Fully loaded with three givi cases etc. blah blah blah..

Anyway, to cut a long story short....wrote a letter outlining the matter (with GPS verification etc and a few other points that showed their speed was way wrong). Cops said 'tell the judge as it's going to court'.

The court case came and went without even being told (! - I was quite keen to go an represent myself too), was fined $750 in absence (but no extra loss of licence). A mate in the police force said, just pay it otherwise if you appeal the fact that you weren't told they'll likely just slap careless driving on top and go you for that too.

Pretty pissed by the whole deal Just paid it and viewed it as my contribution to the Awatere bridge replacement fund!
