First up what you really want is a WWII army helmet (or safety standards approved replica) that you can use as a motorcycle helmet, not a German WWII motorcycle helmet.

Secondly make sure you get one with a spike out the top.

I take that back, now that I think about it I know a dude who was pinged because he had a Mohawk glued to his perfectly servicable lid.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon

i have been fined twice for wearing a german helmet (.........back in my young and stupid days). the helmet was never checked just instant fine of $75 i think it was. i think i was just asked it it was legal. ended up selling it in garage sale

i learn lessons pretty quick when it hurts my wallet. havent even had a speeding ticket since i lost my licence for a few months years ago

also the wind whistles over the bit that sits over your ear so i wouldnt recommend using one

It wasn't long after I got my full license that I was stopped. My license was inspected, so was the WOF and rego, he even took a long hard look at my tyres. When all that was found to be ok it looked like a light had come on the wanker cop's miniscule brain and he asked to inspect my helmet.

The correct sticker was on the back, where it's supposed to be and he grunted and let me go about my business. He was just looking for something to ping me on and looked pissed off when he couldn't find anything.

Moral of the story? Have all your stickers lined up before you hit the road.

As an aside, my worst bin was into a bank, I endo'd the bike and landed on my shoulder with no lid on my noggin whatsoever. That same day one of our group (who was wearing a helmet) was killed when a car pulled out in front of him.

I still like riding without a lid from time to time and I can see why people like the shorties but the German style per se` doesn't do anything for me. I think, even in this new century, they are (for want of a better word) antagonistic. I would hazard a guess that you'll get stopped more often while fully clothed but equipped with a German-style lid than you would in a full-face and a G-string. (The latter being quite legal but utterly stupid. The law is an ass.)

Wouldn't wearing a German WWII helmet make you look like a Nazi? Why would you want to look like a nazi?

A couple of years ago on police 10 7 or some similar programme the copper stopped a harley rider and checked his lid to see if it was legit. From memory it was a full face one at that.

I'm with Paul and Steam on this one- there are people still alive who went through hell to stop Nazi Germany in WW2. If you wear one of these helmets you may as well turn up at next years dawn parade and piss on the wreaths laid in their honour.

The thing I find hilarious is that if Hitler and his mates had gotten their way, many of the people I've seen wearing Nazi helmets would have been worked to death as slaves, gassed, or never allowed to have been born at all.

My thoughts exactly; hence the word "antagonistic" earlier. My old man (who was at Normandy, Mermansk and in the Pacific Fleet) found bikers roaring around with swastikas and German helmets offensive. I won't go there out of respect, not just for my father but for that whole generation.

and there are people who turn in their graves at the thought of people riding japanese bikes or driving japanese cars if you want to continue down this train of thought

If people want to wear replica helmets they are making a statement about themselves and will be judged accordingly

when it comes to safety standards if you have a $10 head wear a $10 helmet

Thanks for all of your input on this query,

First of all I am not getting the German helmet to disrespect anyone, I just like the design of the helmet that's all, i don't like hitler or care about that kind of stuff,

Just want to really have a german helmet for summer, I already have a full face,

I did actually manage to find one, had it imported from the US.

But German and Italian cars, motorbikes and tourists are OK though, right?
