scracha - i don't have problems with the 5 linksys i have put in to places, rock solid and never have any issues that can be related back to the router, the isp yes but not the router,

i personally perfer to putting linksys in to sites, than others

Cajun, Linksys is ace, I agree. Linksys is basically Cisco -- and we all know Cisco has got the goods. In fact I have spent some time modifying my DSL-G604T to have more Cisco-like features

You've just been lucky.....and it looks like your luck just ran out. Theres a known weakness with the RC4 algorithm which has been exploited by such tools as Airsnort and WEPCrack so your key is definately "not hackable".

You're lucky the changed password got your attention! But then again maybe you've been paying for someone elses internet access for the last 3 years.

Some local kid probably saw that broken episode about hacking wireless networks and decided to try it out on you!

Moral of the story - Change the default router password!

I've used Airsnort myself and it took under 10 minutes to crack a WEP network. However....

I thought only WEP was hackable (NB: the default encryption Telecon set up on the 604T)? WPA is safe isn't it? Please tell me if it's not.

For some reason the default passwords are no longer working.

I need to login to forward a port.

I do NOT want to reset the router as getting all the settings correct is a complete bitch, and I'd have to ring tele-sux-my-ass-while-i-rape-your-bank-account-com and wait 4hrs to talk to someone who has no idea whats going on. Last time all i wanted was the settings for the router, but it took him 1hr to figure it out.

Is there any way to get around router passwords? I'd prefer this convo to be held in PM, but what ever suits.

    Running xp if that matters

Do you think someone could of changed the password from default? (i.e., i got haxd?) This happend after that weekend recently where tcom fall over.

    Thanks for your help,

    Rm
Have only ever had one problem with mine, allbeit a small problem. The way I sorted it was by using the reset button on my router, which I might add is a different one than yours. If you also have a reset button then I suggest you use it and then set up the router again. If you don't have a reset button, then I have no idea... I know you don't want to use the reset button because getting the settings is too hard? Sounds like you need a d-link as thats something that my one can detect for itself...

Ah, just read that its sorted now, glad I set up a password for the wireless straight away. Hope you have done the same now.

Oops sorry thought you were using WEP - must pay more attention!! WPA is hackable by brute force but only something like 50 attempts per sec. I remember hearing something about using some hash table that improves this to 18000 per sec tho? Anyway your 7 char password isn't that big and if it's in the dictionary then thats even worse. Not sure how easy it is to hack this with the tools available and whether its within the realm of your local script kiddie - need to look that up.
