About the sort of intelligent considered response I'd expect from you...

My partnerand I are owned by two cats. They graciously allow us to live in our house and feed them. The cats are both de-sexed, microchipped. Despite being well-fed and well-pampered, they do both manage to - when they're phenomenally lucky - catch something feathered. Most of the time, the ginger one just curls up on his couch and the fluffy gay-looking one makes do with viciously hunting earthworms. I'm not sure what my response would be to anyone who killed my pets deliberately, but I'd like to think it would be something that carried a pretty hefty jail sentence.

Unless you have a real problem animal, there is no point in killing it anyway. For the majority of stray or feral cats, a good blast from a garden hose does the trick and persuades them that returning is not such a great idea. We had one such feral cat in our house not so long ago. Vicious snarling spitting bundle of fury. I eventually managed to catch it (it bit a hole through the armour of my three-day old Rev'It gloves in doing so), put it in a cage, gave it a thorough soaking and then took it down to my local vet where they performed a quick emasculation and let it go.

Why did they let it go? Easy - killing a feral cat leaves a vacuum into which other feral cats move. By desexing them and letting them go, you introduce a blocker cat into the area; it prevents new feral cats moving in, but can't breed. Many cat rescue places do exactly the same thing as it keeps the population under far better control than simply shooting all the feral cats you can find. Requiring normal house cats to be desexed would work in the long run, but it would be virtually impossible to police and enforce.

I reckon it was all bullshit.

I doubt the old prick had the grapes to do it. All he did was threaten the old biddy next door that he would, and she was so scandalised that she rang Campbell Live (which is known a a hotbed of journalistic integrity), and it was blown up.

Certainly got people talking about Campbell Live, and I bet their website hits are up.

I don't think you guys have met a wild stray cat, they are nothing like pets and should be shot on sight. My mate works for DOC and they pay him to shoot on sight. You're all a bunch of emo lovin inbreadhippies who don't know dick.

hell why not have a "shoot a wild cat day" make it like a fair type thing in every center around nz, have the goverment give out $1 for every cat killed. sorta like a fox hunt. (obviously not in citys, but rual areas). thats a damn fine idea.

I did not watch the programme for a few reasons, then last night one of my favourite DJ's who is also a cat lover played this mans "interview" on the radio and asked for people to help stop this man. (Go Stables!!!)

This kind of crap really upsets me deaply and makes me question what some people are made off on a moral fibre... then I read this thread and see thats its more than one arse out to shock the world... people can be such arses at times!

I do remember a certain SPCA being pulled up a long time ago over their method of getting rid of stray animals. It consisted of a wet sack and an exhaust...

i found one of the possum traps good. bait it than wait till the little bugger has finished shitting everywhere and decides he wants a feed and goes to eat the bait, then the cage closes and hes stuck, then take a water gun give him a good fright and let it go. works a treat.

but anything inhumane is wrong to the bones.
