Sure you dont want to you up Rapaki and down Worsleys (yes please)????? What time are we meeting an where? Bottom of Rapaki - you set the time as my wifey working so I'm easy. Weather may be better on Sunday but I really don't care either way for a ride like this.

What is the status of the Bridle Path these days as again in the 70's it was like a public road and we used to love zooming up and over to Lyttelton and back again on it? Does it have signs saying no vehicles now?
    Cheers

Wasnt sure so thought I'd do some digging. Found this

Basically the Heathcote side to Summit road is a legal road and the Summit road to Lyttleton is a Historic Reserve. In 1988/89 there was an attempt to stop the Heathcote side road (Lyttleton side was already reserve by then) and make it a historic reserve but was not completed before the Councils were restructured in 1989.

Basically you can legaly ride the Chch side but I dont think you would be very popular and would probably encourage the change from Road to Reserve even faster (not that we can really use it at present anyway) as CCC are supposedly thinking about changing the status. I wouldn't recommend riding it (even though we can) as there are better places to get you kicks.

It was probably all you "old fullers" ripping it up that forced the Lyttleton Side change in the first place

Yep, i'd go for up Rapaki or Huntsbry and down Worsleys. I'd not want to ride the DR up Worsleys at the moment but if ya wanted to play on Worlseys in both directions I'd meet ya there with me CRF230.
Just name ya time and hook up point. I'd prefer Saturday but can do either day.

I'd do Rapaki and Huntsbury too but those alone don't present any challenge even on road tires as such.

I say meet at the top of the seal on Rapaki Road - there will be lots of MTB'ers and walkers and there cars round there.

TA - do you want to just meet at the top of Worsleys. I'm keen to go down then up then down then up then down then..........

    Cheers

Of course we were young then, but it used to be a nice little blat after tea. Oh the loss of freedom huh!

Of course the early settlers (historically speaking) would have ridden a trail bike over there instead of a horse if they'd had them eh. I have historic connections to that track because Mrs merv is a descendant of voyagers on the Cressey - one of the first four ships.

Dude - you should claim your ancestral rights and go rip it up on ya WR LOL.

Seriously, even though you were young and "ripping it up" I still think you would have had more respect for others and the track that what youngns' would have today if it was open top the public. Worsleys spur is a good example of that. In 1998 when I got my first 4wd and went up there is was a challenging track but wasnt a vehicle breaker. You try and get a lightly modified 4wd with mud tyres up there now. I knew of a guy who couldn't go up so decided to cut the fence and go round a section - now there is no fence and the track is about 3 times as wide and even more challenging. One day it will be converted to a reserve as well.

So true, I don't think we really left a mark on it at all, it was mainly hard rock. My first year there I had the A100 to go up it on and then the XL175. All good fun.
