So who rode where this weekend?

So who rode where and was it good?

This morning Boob and I set out from a wet and cold New Plymouth to Eltham to meet up with ynotslow, then we went on to Hawera via a nifty secret squirrel farm track courtesy of ynotslow. Most enjoyable and nice to get off the main drag.

The lads were complaining about the wind!! Must be my nudey 650 is too small an object to get blown about, cause I didn't notice a thing.

A warm and welcome coffee at Hawera, I managed (just) to refrain from letting the staff know that ALL the apostrophes on their menu board needed to be erased forthwith. Coffee's anyone? Yeah, I know, meanwhile children in Africa are going hungry . . .

Then Boob and I went back to NP via the coast, which was fairly cold and wet.

One of those days where presumbably the mountain looked lovely.

Then I got a pm from Nadroj, so off to Mokau for whitebait fritters with N and a mate. Once past the usual traffic to Urenui, the road was fast and empty, and it was such a buzz to flow through the sweepers at Uruti without getting held up.

My first time over Mt Messenger on a bike - seemed about half as big as I remember in a car . . . luckily it was diesel and crap free today. But still, I was working hard as the boys whizzed off in the distance. I'll be a lot happier when I've learned which corners come where . . .

The views up the coast were massive, though the sea looked as cold as a witches tit.

The way back was a dream, I was a bit better at Mt M, and from there to Uruti was magic with the three bikes keeping a steady One hundred and Hmmhmm kph through the corners and no traffic for a goodly while.

And to think I was seriously considering sitting at my desk all day and working.

Still getting though. Roll on summer.

CK had a ride on Saturday, except nobody but me and Jerms showed up so we went out to Sumner, then around to Lyttleton, then Governors Bay and stopped at Wheatsheaf Tavern for a game of pool then headed back into CHCH via the road leading to Halswell.

Sunny day, and was great ride to test if my new fangled baffles in my drag pipes suit and work ok.

Mrs Oakie and I went to Temuka on Friday and returned home on Saturday.
It'll be a story on it's own when I get around to it but the highlights were:
    >Very windy
    >Chertsey Tavern ... cool place, bike friendly
    >EL250 bled petrol all over car park.
    >Injury sustained trying to crash start EL250 (I finished up on ground stopping bike hitting ground having not quite got my leg over while getting speed up. One leg hopping beside bike ... the other leg stuck on seat of moving bike)
    >Got to Temuka safely (4 hours after leaving Christchuch)
    >Had a great night
    >Rode CB400 around hosts' front lawn naked next morning to show gratitude.
    >Head wind home but not as bad as yesterday's cross-wind
    >Chertsey Tavern again to say thanks for yesterday
    >CB400 fell over in car park. Some damage done
    >CB400 Fuel starvation problem. Kept stopping every few kilometres then finally wouldn't even re-start
    >AA callout resolved problem
    >Sheepskin got caught in chain. Chain came off. Arghhhh! Managed to remount the somewhat stretched chain with help of another biker.
    >Managed to get nearly home then in a fit of exuberance cracked the the throttle open ...right in front of a stationary speed camera. Mail to be watched closely for next couple of weeks.

Shit. And that was the short version!

Went to the Kiwi this weekend.
Only from Palmerston though so went via the Para Paras SH4, Friday am was a real nice ride but the ride back today was a little slippery and we didn't feel that great so a slow pace was nice.

First time on the bike in 3 months today. Rode like a nana and couldn't believe how unconnected to the bike I felt. I blame the bike. I thought I was a tough cool biker but I was really nervous today thinking that every corner was going to bite me. It took all day but I feel much much better about the bike and the road and being on them both.

Was a little sore in the knee that had the stiches and possible cartilage damage (had MRI on it yesterday). The busted arm ached a bit but not once i got off the bike. According to the physio that makes it ok to carry on riding. Wasn't sure about posting that but figure it might be interesting to others to know what happens after a bang up.

Partly cloudy at Caltex Rimutaka and a shower on the hill turned to rain on the other side and finally to fine weather and little wind by mid morning ... and so it stayed for the day. We did the twin water towers behind Martinborough and the long way round to Gladstone. Now I know why everyone loves those roads. Perfect spring colours, great roads, no car. Just typical, perfect New Zealand.

Rode the DR from Nelson over the Whangamoa Saddle, Rai Saddle and through Havlock and the start of the Queen Charlotte to Linkwater where I jumped on my trusty XR250 and did a 2-hour cross country (Warewolf needs to ride faster - he didn't lap me ) then jumped back on the DR and back through the QC twisties, Havlock, Pelorus and hung a left and through the Maungatapu back to Nelson.

Couple of mates and I had a bit of a trip this weekend... off to Taupo on Fri, (the nice way past Mangakino, courtesy of the nice chap in the Hamilton Honda dealership that pointed it out to us - cheers!), stayed in Taupo overnight and met up with some other friends of friends from Welly. Saturday morning off back whence we'd come for a bit then across to Te Kuiti, down to Awakino, on to Waitara and NP (briefly), quick trip up the mountain for a coffee then off to Stratford for last fuel before we headed off to Whangamomona for the night. This morning came back via Ohura (sheesh - they've seen better times!), back up to Te Kuiti, Otorohanga, Ngaruawahia, and back home to Auckland.

Feels further than that sounds! Lots of awesome roads, huge fun. Tired now...

Nowhere - but I did go and hear Andrew Stroud talking about bike racing and Jesus - the bike racing bit was quite interesting....
