FOR SALE: 2005 Honda Hornet CB900

Be hard to think of a more fun commuter. There may be smaller more economical bikes but...

It's comfortable, it's small for a 900 and is eminently flickable. It'll pull from pretty much anywhere in the rev range.

One of the American mags said they could always tell who rode the Hornet to work, he was the guy with the big smile.

How about two up?

Will it be okay for a tour down the south island with my partner on the back? (Say once a year or so?)

To be honest I was appalled at another Wellington biker who bought a brand new hornet when he could have assisted you by buying yours and saved himself some dosh.

But then I never buy new vehicles. New vehicles ALWAYS have loadsa shit go wrong in the first few months of ownership. Best to buy them once the quality control gaffes have been sorted - quality used is best!

I let Mr Kendog ride my GSXR for a day while I rode his CB900 Hornet. Girlfriend said the Hornet was way better to be on the back of. It would be a good 2 up South Island bike.

Took first time pillion to Wangas and back on boxing day and she didn't complain much. Went for a hoon over Wainui Hill twice this last Sat and the bike was great. 2nd time was better when I cranked the pre-load up a notch.

Probably not a fair comment because everyone to his own. Personally I never buy anything but new and have never had "loadsa shit" to the extent that I trust Jappa's so much I don't even worry about the warranties and never take them back to the shop for servicing so null and void my warranties pretty well from the start.

Hey Ducatis may be different maybe you need the shit sorting.

Really my issue is not trusting the shop mechanics to service them right in the first place so I keep my bikes out of the shop. So again that's just me and the person you are referring to will have reasons for making the choice that was made too.

Problem with second hand market is that it's not a beginner friendly market. There are a few bargains out there,but mostly you pay for what you get.

Best and safest "bargains" are bikes that are about 2-5 years old with 10'000-30'000Km on the clock. They are practically brand new and goes for $2-$5k less than new = "BARGAIN"

That is my point really it is a personal choice thing. So its no point criticizing someone who buys new - that's their choice and I happen to be one of those.

I've mentioned this on KB before so those who saw it then please forgive me.

To answer this question, my erstwhile pillion who tried most of the Honda range: CBR1000RR, VTR, Blackbird, VFR, CB1300, and Goldwing said,
"When I got on the Hornet I felt like I was coming home."

Surprisingly it has more leg room for a pillion than most of the above including the CB1300. Unlike the VFR, the VTR, or the Blackbird it doesn't require a pillion to adopt an unaccustomed forward lean.

The Goldwing was a bit too much like a car for her,and pillion comfort does not feature high on the CBR design priorities.

Bums get numb eventually but maybe that even happens on a Goldwing but I don't know about that...

You don't void most warrenties by doing the work yourself I am sure. Though you might have to prove you are competent when something does go wrong, and keep reciepts for oil filters etc as evidence the work was done....
